This tour offers a glimpse into the architectural beauty and historical significance of private residences and historic churches in the area. The Beverly/Morgan Park Home Tour offers a plethora of ideas. Outstanding homes like these are what set the Beverly/Morgan Park community - and our Home Tour - apart from other home events and neighborhood tours,” said BAPA Executive Director Mary Jo Viero. A rare American System-Built house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1917. The owners’ recent updates flawlessly blend historic and new materials that honor the architect’s creative intention and close attention to detail. Among the changes made since the house was last on the tour include a nearly new full bath where carefully matched reproduction cabinets and fixtures meet original elements such as the beautifully crafted closet doors. An elegant 1926 Tudor Revival home designed by local architect Oscar L. McMurry and appointed with outstanding hand-crafted floral and fruit plaster moldings, carefully restored leaded glass casement windows with delicately scenic art glass insets, and several original lighting fixtures. A stunning 1912 Craftsman Morgan Park residence built for a Board of Trade broker. An excellent example of Arts and Crafts, the original interior architectural details in this house are the perfect canvas for an outstanding collection of furnishings, artwork, and decorative items collected from around the world. The experience begins at the foyer where the marble floor showcases a stunning inset design created by one of the owners, and lighting shimmers from dramatically beautiful sconces from France. The French Provincial styled dining room features an Italian marble-topped table, also designed by the homeowner, surrounded by chairs that came from Spain. An elegant 1960s Colonial Revival style home in North Beverly where unique original design elements have been updated with seamless remodeling and inspired decorating that ties in to the striking slate floor in the foyer. In the house for about two years, the current owners removed wallpaper, refinished floors (look for the parquet!), remodeled the family room, reconfigured and updated bathrooms, and installed a second floor laundry room. A historic Painted Lady Victorian once the home of clergyman and educator Thomas Goodspeed who came to Morgan Park to accept a position with the Baptist Union Theological Seminary, which later became the Divinity School at the new University of Chicago. The original high ceilings, tall windows, and beautifully hand-crafted woodwork are pretty much unchanged from the time the house was built in 1878. The current owner is an artist who has beautifully coupled the old and new by refreshing walls with lovely contemporary colors and displaying an eclectic collection of original art - much of it her own - throughout the house. This year’s Home Tour will begin at Morgan Park United Methodist Church, 11030 S. Longwood Drive, which was designed by noted architect Harry Hale Waterman in 1912. Visitors are also invited to make an optional stop at Ridge Historical Society, 10621 S. Tours are self-guided using maps and information provided by BAPA on the day of the tour at Morgan Park United Methodist Church.
