UCLA Bruins Men's Soccer: A New Era

The UCLA Bruins men's soccer team is an intercollegiate varsity sports team representing the University of California at Los Angeles. The Bruins have a rich history, playing their home games at Frank Marshall Field of Drake Stadium from 1969 to 2017. The stadium itself is named after Elvin C. "Ducky" Drake, a long-time trainer and former student-athlete at UCLA. The team is ushering in a new era with a revamped roster.

Tommy Brown - Defender

Tommy Brown, a transfer from Wisconsin, brings a wealth of experience to the Bruins' defense. Brown totaled 48 appearances and 42 starts across three seasons at Wisconsin. In 2024, Brown made 11 appearances and five starts for the Badgers. In 2023, Brown started in all 16 games he played, playing 90 minutes in all but three. He was a key member of a Wisconsin defense that collected seven shutouts and was named to TopDrawerSoccer’s National Team of the Week after a shutout of No. 2 Kentucky. As a freshman in 2022, Brown played every minute of the season, scoring his first career goal against Maryland on Oct.

Ander Marticorena

Coaching Changes and Controversies

In March 2019, head coach Jorge Salcedo was implicated in a college admissions scandal and placed on leave. Reports indicated that Salcedo was among those involved in the "biggest college admissions scam ever," with allegations of accepting bribes to facilitate the admission of students. Wiretaps revealed concerns about the potential implications of the bribery scam. Salcedo subsequently resigned from his position in March 2019.
