International Crisis Response Scholarship (ICRS)
As a public university committed to public service, UO has created a scholarship to support international students displaced by humanitarian crises, natural disasters, or conflict in their countries or regions of origin. The university is especially interested in helping students whose college pursuits have been interrupted by such conditions and who have expressed a desire and intent to use their education at UO to improve conditions in their countries or regions of origin.
Applications for the ICRS award will be reviewed by a standing faculty and staff committee. Recipients of the ICRS will generally not be eligible for other DGE-managed scholarships. Review will take into account the nature of the crisis and the potential for the applicant to contribute after graduation to rebuilding, resolution, reconciliation, restoration, or other remedies in their home society. Awards are funding-contingent, and the university expects an average of 1-2 awards per year.

Recipients of the International Crisis Response Scholarship (ICRS) will benefit from advising support and community integration to ease the transition to the UO from situations of crisis. Following the model of the UO’s International Cultural Service Program (ICSP) scholarship, ICRS awardees will also receive training to make periodic presentations about their home cultures at UO and in the surrounding communities.
Work-Study Program
International Student Work-Study Program
The work-study program grants more than 50 work-study awards, ranging from $1,000-$4,500 each year, to eligible international students with financial need. Students who receive these awards can compete for on-campus work-study jobs during the academic year. Students are not guaranteed on-campus jobs, but opportunities for on-campus employment will increase.
Funding for Study Abroad Experiences
The Global Education Oregon (GEO) provides 400 scholarships each year to support students pursuing study abroad and international internship opportunities. Each scholarship has unique eligibility requirements, award amounts, application procedures, and deadlines. These scholarships typically help offset program costs and can often be combined.
GEO General Scholarships
Students already knowing when they plan to study abroad can complete the GEO General Study Abroad Scholarships application. With this one application, students will be considered for nine scholarships available throughout the academic year. Eligibility for each scholarship varies.
SAGE: Study Abroad Global Equity Scholarship
GEO aims to make study abroad accessible to as many UO students as possible. The SAGE scholarship is open to underserved student populations who historically have had lower participation in study abroad opportunities. The SAGE Scholarship can be used to study or intern abroad on a GEO-sponsored credit-bearing program.
GEO Planning Scholarships
Students can apply as early as fall of their freshman year for any of four planning scholarships to be used whenever they're ready to study abroad. Recipients can plan on having a scholarship waiting to be used whenever they decide to participate in a GEO-sponsored study abroad program.
Arlene Schnitzer Study Abroad Scholarship
The Arlene Schnitzer Study Abroad Scholarship is an award of up to $5,000 (average award will be approximately $3,000) available to UO majors in the Schnitzer School of Global Studies and Languages who plan to participate in a GEO-sponsored study abroad program or internship. This scholarship encourages students to pursue language learning and global engagement by studying abroad and becoming a major in the Schnitzer School.
Freeman Fellowship
Fellowships of up to $7,000 are available for students applying to the GlobalWorks International Internship Program.
