International Academic Excellence Scholarship: Newly admitted first-time and transfer undergraduate students are automatically considered for this scholarship upon admission. The scholarship is renewable for up to five years or until the student receives a bachelor's degree, whichever comes first. It applies to on-campus courses only and requires full-time enrollment of at least 12 credit hours, unless otherwise approved. The actual scholarship amounts vary based on tuition costs.
Homer Hitt Nonresident Scholarship: While primarily aimed at non-resident students, this scholarship can provide partial funding that includes in-state tuition, accommodation fees, and a meal plan.

The College of Sciences offers scholarships under three main categories, each with its own application. Most scholarships are awarded based on financial need and we strongly encourage all students to have a completed FAFSA. Our scholarships have limited funding and are competitive; meeting the base qualifications does not guarantee an award. Many of our scholarships require students be enrolled at full-time status (minimum 12 credit hours) and remain in good standing for the award period. Some scholarships are targeted to first-generation college students, meaning neither custodial parent or legal guardian has earned a college degree. The application period opens annually in late Spring with scholarships awarded for the following Fall semester.

HealthCare Mentoring Scholarship: This scholarship is part of a grant awarded through the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation, targeted to undergraduate students pursuing a bachelor of sciences degree and with a declared interest in a career in healthcare.
Amato STEM ScholarsScholarship: Scholarship for undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Sciences or the Robert A. Savoie College of Engineering, majoring in a STEM field.
James Russell Theriot Scholarship: Scholarship to specifically support the educational needs of an undergraduate male student in the field of science.

Admission Requirements for International Students

Proficiency in the English language is vital to the academic success of international students. All students whose native language is not English are required to submit an acceptable Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) composite score of at least 79-80 on the iBT (internet based), 213 (computer-based), or 550 (paper-based). A Statement of Financial Support must also be submitted to the Office of Admissions, indicating financial ability to remain at the University long enough to complete degree requirements. Further testing will be given to verify English competency when the student arrives on campus. It is mandatory that all international students participate in UNO's student medical insurance program. Fees for this insurance will be assessed at registration. If you have attended college in a foreign country, you must have the application and records on file 90 days prior to registration to be considered for admission. Academic records required are (1) official certified transcripts of each year of college or university work (2) certified English translation of each year of college or university work. Each transcript should include the dates of attendance, titles of courses, credits earned, detailed marks, and an explanation of the marks or grading system used. An appropriate school or government official must authenticate these records as accurate. The records must be sent directly to the UNO Office of Admissions from the school.
