Tuition and Financial Aid

A significant advantage of participating in a UF exchange program is that students pay their usual UF tuition rate, and all financial aid, scholarships (including Bright Futures), and fellowships remain applicable. Tuition at the host university is waived. This makes studying abroad more accessible and affordable for UF students.

Honors Program Integration

For Honors students, study abroad and exchange programs are considered Honors Signature Experiences. Completing an honors-specific program allows students to earn enrichment and academic points towards their Honors Completion Requirements, further incentivizing participation in these enriching experiences.

NGO Studies in Belize

This program provides students with in-depth knowledge of the roles and operations of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in social development and environmental conservation around the globe. The program includes travel across Belize for field visits with eight NGOs, offering a deeper understanding of their operations and impacts. Students have the opportunity to conduct field research, analyze data, and present their findings. The program typically lasts approximately four weeks and includes an orientation session in Gainesville before departure.

Physics and Materials Science in France

This program offers a unique opportunity to study Physics 2 or Materials at the Université Catholique de Lille (Catholic University of Lille) in France. Students can explore the rich history of art and engineering practices while expanding their knowledge in these scientific fields.

Pre-Health Studies in Tanzania

Important Information for Exchange Students

Graduate Students

Graduate students should contact their department’s graduate coordinator for advising and registration questions. Only classes taught by CLAS Departments are eligible.

Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate students must take a minimum of 12 credit hours to meet visa requirements. They are permitted to take only one 100% online class. The Schedule of Courses, published in early March for Fall and early October for Spring, provides information on available classes. Students should submit all required documents to UFIC, including their class selection form, as early as possible to increase their chances of enrolling in desired courses. Registration is contingent upon receipt of all required documents, and there is no guarantee of enrollment in any particular class. Students should be prepared with backup options and flexibility in their course selections.

Specific Departmental Considerations

Computer Science: Class availability is very limited, and students should not expect to register for more than 1-2 computer science classes per semester.
Psychology: Exchange students are not allowed to enroll in PSY3213L, EXP4174C, PSB3002, PSB4343C, PSB4342, EAB4714C, PSB4240, EAB4184, EAB4930, PSB4434, or PSY4824.
Other High-Demand Areas: Upper-division Criminology, Sociology, and Economics classes are also in high demand, requiring students to have backup options.

Classes offered by UF colleges other than Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) are subject to the approval of the other college.

Registration Process

To register for classes, students must ensure they have no active registration holds on their record, which can be checked on ONE.UF. An immunization hold may be temporarily lifted to allow registration. Once classes are selected and holds are removed, registration can be completed on ONE.UF. Registering for at least one class before the end of the Regular Registration period is mandatory, and students are encouraged to register for as many classes as possible early on to secure their preferred selections.

Some classes have pre-requisites listed in the Schedule of Courses or the Undergraduate Catalog. Students should include their UF ID number, the class number, and a copy of their unofficial transcript when inquiring about pre-requisites.

Adjusting Class Schedules

After registering, students can continue to adjust their class schedule on ONE.UF through the end of the Drop/Add period, which is the first five days of classes in the Fall and Spring semesters. Adding courses after the Drop/Add period is generally not permitted unless required to meet visa requirements. Students must verify with their home university that their chosen classes are acceptable before the last day of the Drop/Add period.
