University of Arizona Admissions: A Comprehensive Guide

Undergraduate Admission Requirements

International students seeking an undergraduate degree at University of Arizona will have to fulfill particular admission requirements. Generally, the university considers a holistic application, evaluating academic performance, extracurricular involvement, and personal qualities.

GPA Requirements

The GPA requirement that really matters is the GPA you need for a real chance of getting in. The university requires you to be around average in your high school class. You'll need a mix of A's and B's, and very few C's. If you have a lower GPA, you can compensate with harder courses like AP or IB classes. The GPA ranges for admitted students are as follows:

Standardized Testing Policies

University of Arizona hasn't explicitly named a policy on SAT/ACT requirements, but because it's published average SAT or ACT scores (we'll cover this next), it's likely test flexible. Typically, these schools say, "if you feel your SAT or ACT score represents you well as a student, submit them. Despite this policy, the truth is that most students still take the SAT or ACT, and most applicants to University of Arizona will submit their scores. If you don't submit scores, you'll have one fewer dimension to show that you're worthy of being admitted, compared to other students.

SAT

The 25th percentile SAT score is 1130, and the 75th percentile SAT score is 1340. Many schools say they have no SAT score cutoff, but the truth is that there is a hidden SAT requirement. This means that the school wants you to contact them to learn more about their Score Choice policies. Aim for a 1130 SAT or a 21 ACT or higher, and you'll almost certainly get an offer of admission.

ACT

The average ACT score at University of Arizona is 25. The 25th percentile ACT score is 21, and the 75th percentile ACT score is 28. Here it is: when you send ACT scores to colleges, you have absolute control over which tests you send. You could take 10 tests, and only send your highest one. This means that you have more chances than you think to improve your ACT score. To try to aim for the school's ACT requirement of 21 and above, you should try to take the ACT as many times as you can. By and large, most colleges do not superscore the ACT. (Superscore means that the school takes your best section scores from all the test dates you submit, and then combines them into the best possible composite score). We weren't able to find the school's exact ACT policy, which most likely means that it does not Superscore.

The University of Arizona considers the SAT Essay/ACT Writing section optional and may not include it as part of their admissions consideration.

Additional Application Requirements

Every school requires an application with the bare essentials - high school transcript and GPA, application form, and other core information. Many schools, as explained above, also require SAT and ACT scores, as well as letters of recommendation, application essays, and interviews. An application fee of $50 for Arizona residents, $80 for non-residents, $85 for International, or waiver is required. Report coursework as reflected on your high school transcript(s). SAT/ACT scores are not required for admission, merit scholarship eligibility, or acceptance to selective programs. Optionally submitted scores must be sent directly from the testing agency and may be used in class placement or to fulfill Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) course competencies.

Assured Admission

There is assured admission for Arizona residents who meet certain requirements: if they are an Arizona resident, attend a regionally accredited high school, rank in the top 25 percent of their graduating class, and have no course work deficiencies as prescribed by the Arizona Board of Regents.

Transfer Admission Requirements

You are considered an eligible transfer student if you have completed 12+ transferable post-high school college/university credits with a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students under the age of 22 at the start of their desired term must also have a GPA of 2.0 and meet the Arizona Board of Regents course competency requirements. For all others admission requires 24+ transferable post-high school college credits with a minimum 2.0 GPA. Official copies of all college transcripts are required. If you are under age 22, high school transcripts are also required.

Graduate Admission Requirements

There are more than 100 doctoral programs, more than 150 master’s programs, and more than 60 graduate certificate programs available through the University of Arizona’s graduate schools. Medical School Admission Requirements

Applicants must have taken the MCAT exam within four years of intended matriculation into medical school. To be considered for admission into the entering class of 2025, applicants must have taken the MCAT between January 2021 and September 2024. The college has established a minimum composite score of a 500 for the MCAT. A bachelor's (baccalaureate) degree is required for matriculation. or Canada and approved by a regional accrediting body. or Canada, including the required courses for admission.
