UCLA Recreation: Membership Options and Facility Access
UCLA Recreation is dedicated to providing diverse recreational activities and services across its campus facilities, fostering a strong sense of community. A variety of membership options cater to different affiliations, offering access to facilities and programs designed to promote healthy lifestyles.
Facility Access and Membership Overview
Active Recreation members can access facilities using their BruinCard or the UCLA Recreation App, available for both Apple and Android devices. Enrolling in a Recreation Membership grants access to a wide range of classes and programs at on-campus Recreation facilities.
Membership Options
UCLA Students
UCLA students enrolled in the current quarter who have paid the Wooden & SPARC fees are automatically granted Rec facility access.
Facility Access:
- Undergraduate Students: JWC, BFIT, Drake Stadium, Pools, SCRC, and Tennis Courts
- Graduate Students: JWC, KREC, Drake Stadium, Pools, SCRC, and Tennis Courts
Students in self-supporting degree programs or those not currently enrolled (e.g., on leave of absence) do not receive automatic access and must review their eligibility by logging into their Rec account via SSO. Recent graduates can purchase one additional quarter of access immediately following graduation.

Important: Refunds are not available for memberships purchased at a higher rate, duplicate memberships, or for students who pay the Wooden & SPARC Fees via their Bruin Bill.
Extension Students
Extension students have access to specific facilities:
- Facility Access: JWC, Drake Stadium, Pools, SCRC, and Tennis Courts
- Extension International: Most pay Recreation fees through their program and have automatic Rec access. Expect enrollment instructions within 2-3 business days.
- Must be enrolled in a 6+ week program to be eligible for the student rate.
- Important: Refunds are not available for memberships purchased at a higher rate or duplicate memberships.
UCLA Faculty & Staff
UCLA Faculty & Staff members have access to a wide range of facilities:

New hires must wait 5-7 business days from their hire date to be eligible to purchase a Rec membership due to the onboarding process.

- Choose |Rec Membership|
- Choose the grey duration bar MONTHLY (NO END DATE), then ADD TO CART
- Accept the waivers
- Click CHECKOUT, then "Add a New Card"
- Click CHECKOUT and choose your recently added credit card in the “Choose Payment Option” window
- Proceed through the checkout process

UCLA Alumni
UCLA Alumni, defined as graduates from undergraduate or graduate degree programs at UCLA, have access to:

Community Members
Community members can access specific facilities:

Steps for New and Returning Rec Members:
- Create a Rec Profile (new members only)
- Submit a Member Enrollment Form
- Expect enrollment instructions within 2-3 business days
- IMPORTANT: Once a Rec account has been activated for membership purchase, ID verification is required to gain Recreation facility access. All members are required to present a valid government issued photo ID via an in-person or Zoom session prior to any access being granted.
Family Memberships
Family memberships are available for two adults and up to four minors (0-17 years old, SCRC access only).
Membership is required for all ages, including infants.
NOTE: Adults 18+ years do not qualify as minors for family membership and must create their own Recreation profile to purchase individual Rec memberships.
Facility Access & Age Restrictions

- Minors (0-17 years) do NOT have access to JWC, KREC, or BFIT.
- Minors have access to the following facilities and must be accompanied at all times by an adult 18+ years: Sunset Canyon Rec Center (Leisure Swim at SCRC Family Pool, SCRC Mapes Volleyball Court and SCRC Lawn), Tennis Courts, Drake Stadium, Hitch Basketball Courts, IM Field
- Primary Member and Household Adults (18+) have access to the following facilities: John Wooden Center, Sunset Canyon Rec Center, Hitch Basketball Courts, Swimming Pools, Drake Stadium, Kinross Rec Center (KREC)* and Tennis Courts, IM Field
- IMPORTANT: Review the "Access and Age Restrictions" section of each facility page.*KREC is only available to registered UCLA graduate students, faculty and staff, and emeriti/retirees and their household adults.

Terms & Conditions Family memberships are available to a maximum of 1 or 2 adults and MUST include a minimum of 1 minor (0-17 years). Family membership cannot exceed two adults and four minors (under 18 years old). Family membership is not available to groups of adults. Each facility is subject to specific policies and age restrictions. For a full list of policies and age restrictions, see policy section of each Facilities page. Only UCLA Recreation Personal Fitness Trainers and Instructors may conduct training sessions in any UCLA Recreation facility. Violations of Recreation policies may result in loss of membership.
Household Adult Memberships
- Household adults can purchase a membership at the same rate and get access to the same facilities as the primary Rec member.
- IMPORTANT: Refunds are NOT available for memberships purchased at a higher rate.
- The affiliated member must have an active student membership or Recreation membership AND proof of shared residential address is required.
- NOTE: Primary member and household adult must reside at the same address to be eligible. Examples of proof: current lease agreement, utility bills, driver’s license, marriage/domestic partner certificate showing name and address.
Additional Information
UC Reciprocity
UC Reciprocity allows UC students, faculty, and staff with an active Campus Recreation membership to use recreation facilities across all UC campuses for free for up to 7 days.
- Register for the “UC Reciprocity” Membership online.
- Reminder: when you are visiting another UC campus, you are also representing your home institution.
Lockers
- Lockers are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and are not guaranteed.
- An active Recreation membership is required to purchase and maintain a locker rental.
- The maximum locker rental duration is one quarter.
- The Member Services staff will review requests in the order they were submitted within 3-5 business days.
- Log into your Recreation account and submit online payment within 5 business days of locker assignment or you are subject to lose your locker rental.
- Click the blue “Renew” button.
- IMPORTANT: You will need to SAVE the locker number and combination once you are in the checkout screen.
General Policies
- UCLA Recreation believes in fostering and enhancing a sense of community on our campus.
- Adult guests sign required Facility Waiver and Recreation Community Expectations upon arrival.
- Guest passes are non-refundable.
- For the safety of all users, members are prohibited from sponsoring individuals who are unknown to them and encouraged to report any such solicitations to Rec staff.
- Principal memberships are for adults 18 years and older.
- Personal water bottle is recommended. Beverages must be in a spill-proof, unbreakable, re-sealable container.
- Users are responsible for personal belongings. Do not bring valuables.
- Spaces must be used as intended.
- UCLA Recreation believes it is essential that all people exercise their right to express their human and cultural identities.
- Consistent with this belief, our programs promote healthy lifestyles and the preservation of human dignity by fostering the spirit of fair play without bigotry, hatred, prejudice, or disrespect.
Bookings
- Click on the three dots in the right corner of the booking.
- Bookings open 72 hours in advance of each time slot.
- Must be an eligible UCLA affiliate with an active student membership or Recreation membership to make a Booking.
- Participants will be able to make a Booking starting 72 hours in advance, up until one hour prior to the Booking start time.
- Bookings that cannot be attended must be canceled no later than 60 minutes prior to the start time.
Cancellations
- UCLA Recreation will follow University protocol regarding closure dates, hours of operations, and in-person activity.
- Membership extensions, transfers, refunds, and discounts are not offered due to facility and campus closures (i.e. observed holidays, health and cleaning requirements, inclement weather, and any unsafe conditions).
- Our membership fees are structured in consideration of the University winter closure.
- Cancellations due by the 15th - It is the member’s responsibility to submit the Cancellation Request Form prior to the 15th of the current month to avoid being charged for the following month.
- AutoPay memberships require a 3-month minimum commitment.
- It is the responsibility of the member to ensure their personal contact information is up to date with Recreation.
- Member has a documented medical circumstance that will not allow them to use the facility.
Payroll Deduction Enrollment Membership
- Payroll Deduction Enrollment Membership must be paid upfront via credit card for the current quarter.
- Your payroll deductions will begin on the 1st paycheck of the following quarter.
- UCLA Recreation will follow University protocol regarding closure dates, hours of operations, and in-person activity.

John Wooden Center (JWC)
The John Wooden Center is accessible to registered UCLA students, faculty, staff, retirees, alumni, and community members. Registered students can use their Bruin Card for access, while other affiliations require a Rec membership.
JWC Seismic Improvement Project
The John Wooden Center is undergoing renovation to address seismic deficiencies and improve the layout of the space. These renovations are projected to be completed early in 2027.
Policies and Procedures
Access and Age Restrictions

- Must be at least 18 years of age to participate in open recreation fitness and/or sport unless part of a designated program or instructor-led activity.
- All members must have a valid photo on their profile in order to access to Recreation facilities.
- Must be at least 16 years of age to use the cardio and strength equipment, unless otherwise determined by instructor-led activity or program.
- Only UCLA Recreation Personal Fitness Trainers may conduct training sessions in any UCLA Recreation facility.
- Courtyard and indoor spaces will be closed in inclement weather, unsafe conditions and for scheduled classes.
Facility Policies
- Bicycles and electric scooters are not permitted indoors. Skateboards and non-electric scooters must be stored on appropriate rack or in a locker.
- Beverages must be in a spill-proof, unbreakable, re-sealable container.
- No spitting.
- No photography or video recording, unless approved by UCLA Recreation management.
- For assistance: Report any blood, injury, equipment malfunction or facility feedback to the FITWELL staff immediately.
