Navigating Parking at UCLA: A Comprehensive Guide
Finding parking at a large institution like UCLA can be challenging. This guide provides detailed information on parking options both on the main campus and at the UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center, including permit information, daily parking options, and exemption criteria.
Parking at UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center
Parking near the UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center, located at 1250 16th Street, can be difficult due to high demand. However, several options are available for patients and visitors.
Parking Locations and Rates:
- 1250 16th Street: Offers 24-hour valet parking from Monday to Friday. The daily rate is $14, with no in/out privileges.
- 1225 15th Street: Open Monday to Friday, from 6 am to 6:30 pm. The daily rate is $14, with no in/out privileges.
- 1260 15th St. Medical Building: Operates Monday to Friday from 6:30 am to 10 pm and Saturdays from 8 am to 6 pm.
- 1245 16th St. Medical Building: Operates Monday to Friday from 6 am to 10 pm and Saturdays from 8 am to 5 pm.
- 1311 16th St. Structure: Available Monday to Friday from 6:30 pm to 6 am and all day on weekends and holidays.
Directions to UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center:
- From the 10 Freeway West: Exit at Cloverfield Boulevard (north) to Santa Monica Boulevard. Turn left (west) on Santa Monica Boulevard, then turn right (north) on 16th Street to reach 1250 16th Street.
- From Wilshire Boulevard West (San Fernando Valley): Merge onto Wilshire Boulevard and turn left (south) on 16th Street to reach 1250 16th Street.
Additional Information:
- Metered street parking is available, but it's essential to carefully read street signs to avoid tickets.
- Parking passes for Labor and Delivery patients are available for purchase at Security and Parking Services. A day pass costs $5 and includes in/out privileges for the significant other of the patient. After hours/weekends/holiday: $7 from 6:30 pm to 6:00 am, Monday to Friday only.
Parking on the Main UCLA Campus
Daily Parking
Visitors to the main UCLA campus can purchase daily parking permits at kiosks. For example, to visit Royce Hall, located in North Campus, purchase your daily parking permit at the kiosk located in Parking Structure 5, Level (just before the pedestrian bridge) an additional kiosk is available in Parking Structure 5, Level 6 (top level). You will need to enter your license plate number to purchase parking. Payment station kiosks only accept cash and credit cards. Pay station kiosks accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express and only accept $1, $5, and $10 bills and DO NOT give change back.
Parking Permits for Employees
UCLA employees have several parking permit options depending on their appointment percentage:
- Employees Appointed at 43.75% Time or More: UCLA faculty and staff, career or limited appointment, who are benefits eligible and employed at least 43.75% time in UC Path, are eligible to purchase a monthly auto-renew, quarterly, short-term, or daily parking permit.
- Employees Appointed Below 43.75%: UCLA faculty and staff employed below 43.75% are eligible for quarterly, short-term, or daily parking permits only.
- Faculty and Staff with a DP Placard: Faculty and staff with accessible needs who have a valid parking permit may park in any legal parking stall when displaying their DMV-issued DP placard/license plate. They will need to display their DP placard/license plate at all times when parking in our structures. This does not include gated parking structures (e.g. Medical Plaza, Luskin, STR 35, STR 36, STR 37, and STR 39).
It is important to note that you may not park in red zones, loading zones, university vehicle parking stalls, or areas not specifically marked as parking stalls.

Parking Exemptions for Students
Students who require a car on campus despite restrictions can apply for a parking exemption. Exemption requests must be submitted for each quarter (except Summer) by the quarterly application deadline via the Bruin ePermit Portal. Exemption offers are considered on a case-by-case basis, are dependent upon available parking allocations, and are not guaranteed. Altering any documentation (ePermits, receipts, third party receipts, student exemption parking forms/requests, etc.) from its original form may result in loss of parking for up to four (4) years and/or result in a referral to the Dean of Students for violating the student code of conduct.
How to Apply for an Exemption:
- Log in to the Bruin ePermit Portal
- Click on "Special Permit Requests”
- Select “Dorm/Student Exempt Request”
- Specify in the “notes” section the criteria for your exemption (see below)
- Attach required documentation
Exemption Reasons and Criteria:
- Child Care: For legal parents or guardians of children newborn-12 years of age, currently attending out-of-home school or day care, or have special needs.
- Required Documentation: Birth certificate, legal documentation, or letter of live birth; Verification of enrollment in school, day care, etc.
- Illness of Family Member: For eligible care providers for a spouse, child, or parent/legal guardian who has a serious health condition.
- Required Documentation: Completed Certificate for Illness of Family Member's Serious Health Condition; Declaration of Relationship; Supporting documents to confirm family relationship (listed on the form). A new and up-to-date Certificate for Illness of Family Member's Serious Health Condition form is required every academic quarter for those without a lifelong or permanent condition. Those with a lifelong or permanent condition will be required to submit a new and updated Certificate for Illness of Family Member's Serious Health Condition form annually. Not Accepted: Care directive, medical records, hospital admission and discharge papers, medical appointment schedules, doctor’s letter or prescription note, x-rays, third party letter, disabled placard, supplemental security income, or state supplement payment
- Recent Death: For applicants with a recent death of parent/legal guardian, spouse, child, grandparent, aunt or uncle within the previous or current quarter. This exemption is only granted for one quarter.
- Required Documentation: Death certificate
- Academic Need/Professional School: For applicants requiring an internship as part of their curriculum, those with late admission, or re-enrolling after withdrawing.
- Required Documentation: Signed Course Contract; Program/Internship verification and letter from UCLA department confirming internship is part of class curriculum; Late admission offer letter or re-enrollment after withdrawing
- Hilgard Graduate Housing: For applicants with a contract with UCLA graduate housing who have applied for parking.
- Required Documentation: Letter of parking waitlist
- Job Commute - Residence Hall and tenants living in Gayley Court Apartments, Gayley Heights Apartments, Glenrock Apartments, Gayley Towers, Glenrock West Apartments, Landfair Apartments, Landfair Vista Apartments, Laurel Apartments, Levering Terrace Apartments, Palo Verde, Tipuana Apartments, Westwood Chateau Apartments, or Westwood Palms Apartments Only: For commuter students with a local, verifiable, current, and regularly scheduled off-campus job or paid internship within the last two calendar months. Note: Job locations in 90024 and 90095 do not qualify
- Required Documentation: A 1099-MISC or a dated letter from your employer on company letterhead verifying your employment status, date of hire, work address (street, city, state, and zip code) and pay duration, and must provide one of the following: Two recent paystubs dated within the last two calendar months from exemption submission date.Bank statement verifying two recent direct deposits within the last two calendar months from exemption submission date.Two recent company-canceled checks (front and back copy is required) dated within the last two calendar months from exemption submission date. And a letter on letterhead from their training facility confirming the training facility’s offsite address and frequency of how often they train.
Parking exemption requests submitted due to missed parking application deadline or missed payment deadline will not be considered. Exemptions remain confidential and all supporting documentation will be destroyed at the end of each quarter.
