Introduction

Thammasat University, a public research university in Thailand, has a rich history deeply intertwined with the nation's political and social development. The Faculty of Social Administration, established on January 25, 1954, aimed to develop social welfare initiatives under the guidance of Lady La-iade Phibunsongkhram. The faculty's focus on social problem management, integration, and gradual societal change reflected a commitment to Fabian methods of social progress.

Thammasat students have historically been active in Thai politics, often at the forefront of social and political movements. The university served as a clandestine headquarters for the Free Thai anti-Japanese underground during World War II, led by Pridi Banomyong.

Expansion and Diversification of Academic Programs

Over time, Thammasat University expanded its academic offerings to encompass a wider range of disciplines. In 1961, the Faculty of Liberal Arts was established to provide students with a broad foundation in science, social science, and humanities. The Faculty of Liberal Arts initially focused on delivering foundation courses to all Thammasat undergraduate students.
