Students from the Class of 2023 and beyond are eligible for the Michigan Achievement Scholarship if their family demonstrates financial need when they complete the FAFSA.

Eligibility for the Michigan Achievement Scholarship

Several criteria must be met to qualify for the Michigan Achievement Scholarship.

  • Financial Need: The primary requirement is demonstrating financial need through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For new students in the 2025-26 academic year, a FAFSA Student Aid Index (SAI) of 30,000 or less is required. Students who received the Michigan Achievement Scholarship in Academic Year 2023-24 and completed a 2024-25 FAFSA shall be considered meeting the financial need component of the Michigan Achievement Scholarship for Academic Year 2024-25 regardless of their SAI. Students who received the Michigan Achievement Scholarship in Academic Year 2023-24 and completed a 2024-25 FAFSA shall be considered meeting the financial need component of the Michigan Achievement Scholarship for Academic Year 2025-26 regardless of their SAI.
  • Residency: For incoming first-year undergraduates in the 2025-26 academic year, students must be Michigan residents since July 1, 2024. If the student is a dependent, their parent(s) must also be Michigan residents since July 1, 2024.
  • High School Graduation: Applicants must graduate from high school in Michigan with a diploma or a certificate of completion or achieve a high school equivalency certificate in 2023 or after and enroll within 15 months.
  • Enrollment: To receive the award, students must be enrolled full time (12 or more credit hours).
  • Transfer Students: Transfer students will be reviewed for an award if they meet the FAFSA and state residency requirements. They must have graduated from high school in Michigan with a diploma or a certificate of completion or achieved a high school equivalency certificate in 2023 or after and enroll in college within 15 months. After filing the annual FAFSA, students must indicate they will attend Wayne State University (WSU) in the State Student Portal.
  • Maintaining Eligibility: To retain eligibility, students must meet all Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements and continue to file the annual FAFSA.

MI Future Educator Stipend Terms

Tuition Incentive Program (TIP): Encouraging High School Completion

The Tuition Incentive Program (TIP) encourages students to complete high school by providing college tuition assistance after graduation.

TIP Eligibility

  • Eligible students are those who have or have had Medicaid coverage for 24 months within a 36 consecutive month period as identified by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).

  • Students may receive a maximum of $2,000 in TIP funds.

Other Financial Aid Resources

Federal Pell Grant

Eligibility is based, in part, on student enrollment at the beginning of a semester. If a student withdraws or receives a non-passing grade for a class, the institution must confirm that the student attended at least one session of that class. Grant amount is reduced for less than full-time enrollment. There is an annual Federal Pell limit. Students enrolled full-time for fall/winter terms will use their annual limit in these terms. Note, this is not a specific scholarship. Instead, all Title IV Financial Aid will be awarded as if the student's Student Aid Index is $0.

Michigan Education Trust (MET)

The Michigan Education Trust (MET) is a 529 Prepaid Tuition Plan that allows for the pre-purchase of tuition based on today's rates and then paid out at the future cost when the beneficiary is in college.
