A Storied History: From College Bowl to AmFirst Stadium
The stadium's journey began in 1947, when a new facility was built in the present location to accommodate the growing popularity of football at Jacksonville State. Dedicated in front of an overflow crowd at the Homecoming game against Pembroke, the stadium was initially known as the "College Bowl."

In 1961, the stadium was renamed Paul Snow Stadium to honor longtime JSU supporter Paul Snow. Snow's contributions to the university were instrumental in the growth and development of its athletic programs.
In July 2010, the stadium underwent another name change, becoming Burgess-Snow Field at JSU Stadium. This renaming paid tribute to former coach Bill Burgess, who led the Gamecocks to the 1992 NCAA Division II National Championship.

In 1965, seating was expanded from 5,000 to 8,500, and a new press box was installed on the north side of the facility.
In 2005, the natural playing surface was replaced with an artificial playing turf, marking the first major renovation to the stadium since the 1978 season.
A $47 million expansion was completed in 2010, adding a seven-story tower with dorm beds, luxury skyboxes, a new press area, coaches' booths, radio and television broadcast facilities, and a game management booth. The expansion increased the seating capacity to 24,000.
