Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU), also known as విక్రమ సింహపురి విశ్వవిద్యాలయం in Telugu, is a public non-profit university. VSU was initially a Unitary University. It became an Affiliating University in 2010 when the Government of Andhra Pradesh authorized the University to exercise its powers of affiliation under the A.P Universities Act, 1991, to bring UG/PG/Professional/Oriental, etc., colleges in Nellore district under its jurisdiction from the academic year 2010 - 11. As a result, 126 colleges affiliated to Sri Venkateswara University were brought under the fold of Vikrama Simhapuri University, Nellore with effect from the academic year 2010 - 11. It is one of the youngest higher education institutions in the country. The university is located in Dargamitta, Sri Pottisriramulu Nellore District, Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, 524003 India, in a city with a population of approximately 548,000. VSU started with an administrative building at Dargamitta, Nellore. Regular classes are at V.R. High School Campus (Old Law College Campus), Nellore. Then after shifting to its own buildings, the administratitive building was named Potti Sriramulu Block.

Criticism and Controversies
From the inception of the university, there has been criticism regarding the recruitment process. Former Vice-Chancellor G. Rajarami Reddy was criticized for focusing more on recruitment than on developing infrastructure, which resulted in the university not attaining University Grants Commission (India) 12 B Status. In December 2013, he recruited 19 teaching faculty members, allegedly without qualified personnel in the departments of tourism management and biotechnology. There were also accusations of malpractice regarding roster points, such as presenting integrated biotechnology as biotechnology in the recruitment notification. The recruitment process in June 2014 occurred during a ban on recruitments and appointments in Andhra Pradesh, leading to further criticism. This issue is reportedly under review by the Lokayukta Andhra Pradesh for inquiries and action.
Additionally, the university faced criticism for neglecting the renewal of its old official web domain (simhapuriuniv.org) while inaugurating the new domain (simhapuriuniv.ac.in), leading to the old domain's misuse by fake degree racketeers. This issue came to light on August 14, 2014, with reports of fake degrees being widely available in North India.
The overall strength of the students in university colleges has been decreasing. Students claimed that this was because of administration policies. A research scholar tried to commit suicide by immolating himself on the top floor of a building in university campus. University officials maintain their own web servers, but lack the knowledge to do so securely. The appointment of a state public information officer of VSU was criticized. K. Narasimha Rao, an assistant professor, was the information officer for many years instead of the registrar or a senior professor.
Campus and Facilities
The campus of VSU Nellore is located in Nellore. The urban campus is suitable for those students who, firstly, are used to independence, and secondly, cannot imagine their life without the hustle and bustle of a big metropolis. During the period of study, students can use the university library, where they can do homework and write scientific papers. The university has everything for sports: sports grounds and clubs.

Affiliations and Jurisdiction
On 12 April 2010, the government of Andhra Pradesh passed a G.O. With these orders SVU PG Centre in Kavali, NBKR Engineering College in Vidyanagar, 52 degree and PG colleges, 12 MBA/MCA colleges, V.R. Law college, 12 B.Ed. colleges, two oriental colleges in SPSR Nellore District came under VSU.
