GPA Requirements: A Closer Look

While UNM accepts below-average students, it is important to understand the GPA ranges of admitted students. The GPA requirement that really matters is the GPA you need for a real chance of getting in. The average GPA at University of New Mexico-Main Campus is 3.44, suggesting that UNM is a very selective institution. If your GPA is at or below the school average of 3.38, you'll need a higher SAT or ACT score to compensate.

Provisional Admission and GPA Considerations

For Fall 2025 admission, non-resident undergraduate freshman and transfer applicants can qualify to pay 1.5 times the New Mexico resident tuition rate if they apply by December 1, 2024, and have a 2.8 cumulative high school or college transfer GPA, or a minimum 18 ACT or 960 SAT score.
