Understanding the University of Washington Tuition Calculator
Navigating the costs of higher education can be daunting. For prospective students considering the University of Washington (UW), understanding the tuition structure and available resources is crucial. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the UW tuition calculator, associated fees, and factors influencing the overall cost of attendance.
Utilizing the Net Price Calculator
The UW offers a Net Price Calculator as a valuable tool for prospective students and their families. This calculator provides an estimate of the cost of attendance after factoring in potential financial aid and scholarships. In order to use the net price calculator, you will need to have some information available from your parents’ and your most recent tax returns. International students can use the net price calculator to get an estimate of the cost of attendance. It is important to note that the estimated values produced by this calculator are not the actual amounts students will be offered. If you prefer a more detailed SAI calculation, you may use the Federal Student Aid Estimator. Note: By using this calculator, you are NOT applying for aid.
Tuition and Residency
Tuition rates at the UW vary depending on residency status. Very few international students pay the resident tuition rate; students must apply and qualify for Washington state residency to pay this rate. You are considered a non-resident student if you are from a state other than one of the WWAMI states. You may apply for residency status in Washington after demonstrating a year of primary residency. Gaining residency status is not assured and generally requires proving that you did not move to Washington purely for the purposes of education. If residency status is not granted, you will continue to pay non-resident tuition.
Additional Fees
Beyond tuition, students are responsible for various fees that support essential services and programs.
Student Fees
These fees are paid by each enrolled student every quarter and are used to fund student activities and programs. These programs include ASUWT student government, Student Activities Board (SAB), student publications (e.g. the Ledger, Tahoma West), the Childcare Assistance Grant Program, intramurals, special speakers/events, and many other student services.

University YMCA Student Center Fee
This fee is assessed to fund the University YMCA Student Center. All students who are enrolled for credit and charged tuition are assessed this quarterly fee and have access to the University YMCA Student Center as well as other YMCA facilities in Pierce and Kitsap counties.
U-PASS
The U-PASS is a transit pass that is integrated with your Husky ID card and allows full fare coverage on Community Transit, Everett Transit, Kitsap Transit, Metro Transit, Pierce Transit and Sound Transit buses. In addition, it covers the full fare for the Sounder commuter train service, Link light rail, paratransit services and subsidizes vanpool fares.
Understanding Part-Time Tuition
Part-time students (those paying less than full-time tuition) are charged on a prorated basis.
International Graduate Tuition
International graduate tuition and fees listed on this page are based on the Tier I level. Review the Graduate & Professional Tuition Dashboard for Tier I, II, or III specific tuition & fee rates or search by your specific program.
Student Budget
Your student budget is the amount of money we estimate you will need for tuition, books, and living expenses during medical school. It is also used to determine the maximum amount of financial aid you may receive each year.

Financial Support for Academic Student Employees (ASEs)
