University of Maine at Presque Isle: Programs, Accessibility, and Affordability
The University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI) offers a diverse range of programs designed to cater to various academic and professional aspirations. With a focus on affordability, accessibility, and accreditation, UMPI strives to provide a high-quality educational experience for all students.
Academic Programs
UMPI offers a variety of degree programs, including:
- Business: M.S. in Business, B. Business Administration, B. Business Administration, Tourism Concentration, and B. Business Administration, Sport Management Concentration.
- Nursing: B.S.N.
- Early Childhood Education: A.
In addition to degree programs, UMPI allows students enrolled in degree programs and students who are not enrolled in a degree program to earn certificates. Students in UMPI degree programs should declare their intention to complete a Certificate Program by completing a Request for Change of Major/Advisor form available through the Advising Office. Students majoring in one program may wish to develop expertise in another area as well by completing a minor in a second discipline.
Online Programs: Affordable, Accessible, Accredited
UMPI offers a range of online programs designed with the convenience of distance learning in mind. These programs are built upon three core principles:
- Affordable: Online courses at UMPI cost the same as on-site courses, which is one of the lowest prices you’ll find among four-year institutions in the State of Maine. The YourPace program offers an even more affordable option with a flat-rate tuition per session. For undergraduate offerings, the price is \$1,800 per session, and for graduate offerings, it is \$2,450 per session.
- Accessible: UMPI's online programs fit into busy schedules, whether you’re a full-time parent, have a full-time job, or just need the convenience of taking university courses from home. You can access online courses from any computer with an internet connection. The YourPace program provides 6 start dates per year.
- Accredited: All online instructors have graduate degrees, and 90% of them have a Ph.D. or a terminal degree.
UMPI's online programs aim to provide a high-quality classroom experience with the convenience of distance learning. The faculty works hard to engage students and lead in-depth discussions on the topic at hand. UMPI provides support from start to finish and has three easy ways for students to connect with online programs.

Nursing Program: A Closer Look
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) traditional track is designed for students transitioning from high school to college, those transferring with credit from other academic institutions, and non-traditional students seeking consideration for previously earned academic credit and/or life experience. Ordinarily, this option takes 4 years to complete. Students not meeting the Traditional Nursing guidelines may be admitted to the Allied Health program.
Upon successful completion of the program and fulfillment of all University graduation requirements, the student is awarded a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in nursing and is eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
As part of the licensure application process, arrest and court records of final adjudication for any offense other than a minor traffic violation must be submitted for review to the Maine State Board of Nursing. The Maine State Board of Nursing may refuse to grant a license on the basis of a criminal record for convictions denominated in Title V Chapter 341 Section 5301 Subsection II of the Maine Revised Statutes Annotated. Applications of those who have been convicted of a felony and whose civil rights have been removed are considered to be incomplete until documentation that civil rights have been regained is presented to the Maine State Board of Nursing.
It is important to note that individual schools and programs must disclose whether completion of a licensure or certification program meets state educational requirements for licensure or certification in the state in which the student lives or intends to reside. Students who will be living on campus or in Maine are considered to be located in Maine for the purpose of meeting the licensure requirements for a given program. If your intention is to work in a state other than Maine upon graduation, the University of Maine System strongly encourages you to check into the licensure requirements in those states.
