Automatic Transfer Scholarships at Mizzou
Mizzou offers automatic transfer scholarships to students transferring from other colleges and universities. A separate application is not required for these scholarships; you’ll be evaluated for certain automatic scholarships just by applying to Mizzou. Scholarship eligibility can be based on financial need, merit or other special characteristics. Several key criteria determine eligibility for these scholarships.
- First Bachelor's Degree: Scholarships are exclusively available for students pursuing their first bachelor’s degree.
- Full-Time Enrollment: To receive a transfer scholarship, enrollment must be full time, which is defined as a minimum of 12 credit hours at the University of Missouri on the Columbia campus.
- Credit Hour Limit: Students who transfer with 120 or more credit hours will not be eligible for the automatic transfer scholarships.
- Continuous Enrollment: You are eligible for transfer scholarships for up to 6 continuous fall or spring semesters, or until you earn enough credits to receive a bachelor’s degree, whichever occurs first. These scholarships may not be utilized during the summer semester.
Financial Aid and Scholarship Reduction

Mizzou’s Student Financial Aid office determines your aid eligibility using your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To make sure you receive priority consideration for scholarships and other types of financial aid, submit the FAFSA as early as possible and apply for departmental and general scholarships by Dec. Transfer scholarships may be reduced to keep your total financial aid package within your Cost of Attendance for the academic year, or in situations where other sources are paying for or waiving tuition and fees for you.
All scholarships, grants, and financial resources you receive are subject to being reduced if the combined total reaches your maximum Cost of Attendance. However, if you feel that you have additional educational costs that exceed your standard Cost of Attendance (COA), you can contact the Student Financial Aid office to see if there is an opportunity to appeal to increase your COA.
Scholarship Transferability and Conduct
It's crucial to note that all Mizzou scholarships are not transferable among other campuses of the University of Missouri System unless specifically indicated. Additionally, if you are dismissed from the University for any conduct reason, you will lose your Mizzou scholarship.

Scholarship Renewal and Appeals
Many transfer scholarships are renewable, providing continued financial support throughout your academic journey at Mizzou. Recipients must complete a minimum of 24 credit hours between the fall and spring semesters and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Renewable for up to 1 additional year. If renewal criteria are met at the conclusion of the academic year (i.e., spring semester), you may regain eligibility in the future.
If you fail to meet the minimum renewal criteria of total hours completed for the academic term and/or cumulative GPA at the end of your Spring semester, your scholarship can only be reinstated if a scholarship appeal is submitted and approved.
Transfer Scholarships at UMKC
The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) also offers automatic scholarships to new transfer students working on their first bachelor's degree transferring 24 or more college credits who apply to UMKC by May 1 for Fall term or November 15 for Spring term are considered for automatic scholarships, with the exception of students transferring to the schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry and Law. Scholarships are only available to students upon admission to the university; continuing students are not eligible for scholarship consideration. A student becomes a continuing student on the first day they begin courses at UMKC.
If you qualify for more than one automatic scholarship, you will receive the award with the highest amount per academic year, except for Roo Advantage, which, when combined with your aid package, covers remaining tuition and fees. You must complete the competitive scholarship application to be considered for any competitive scholarships. The application period for most competitive scholarships is Oct. Competitive scholarships are awarded by how well you fit the criteria for the scholarship.
