University of Georgia Track and Field: A Legacy of Excellence
The University of Georgia (UGA) boasts a rich history in track and field, marked by outstanding athletes, dedicated coaches, and a commitment to excellence. From its home at Spec Towns Track to national and international success, the UGA track and field program has consistently produced top-tier talent.
Home Field Advantage: Spec Towns Track
The UGA track & field teams practice and compete at Spec Towns Track. The facility is named after Spec Towns, a significant figure in the program's history.
In May 2023, the Georgia athletic board revealed plans to build off-campus track facility.
The Bowerman and Honda Sports Award
In 2018, Keturah Orji became the first Georgia Bulldog to win The Bowerman, an award that honors collegiate track & field's most outstanding athlete of the year. Furthermore, a Bulldog athlete was named Winner Of Honda Sport Award For Track & Field in June 19, 2025.

Men's Sprint Performances
- 100 Meters: Matthew Boling holds the fastest time at 9.97 seconds (2021). Kendal Williams is second with 9.99 seconds (2017). Brody Buffington and Jehlani Gordon both recorded 10.05 seconds in 2025 and 2024, respectively.
- 200 Meters: Matthew Boling also leads in the 200 meters with a time of 19.92 seconds (-.9 wind) in 2022. Kendal Williams is behind him with 20.11 seconds (2016). Brody Buffington ran 20.24 seconds (1.3 wind) in 2025.
- 400 Meters: Christopher Morales Williams set the record at 44.05 seconds in 2024, followed by Elija Godwin with 44.34 seconds (2022). Will Floyd is third with 44.93 seconds (2025).
Men's Middle Distance Performances
- 800 Meters: William Sumner holds the top spot with a time of 1:44.26 (2023). Aaron Evans recorded 1:46.26 (2010), and Christian Harrison ran 1:46.69 (2016).
- 1500 Meters: Sam Bowers leads with a time of 3:42.45 (2022). Clay Pender is second at 3:44.43 (2023), and Bryan Kamau is third with 3:45.60 (2017).
- 1 Mile: Bryan Kamau also holds the record in the 1 mile with a time of 4:02.42 (2018). Henry Dwyer is close behind at 4:02.73 (2018).
- 3000 Meters: Cooper Bocko's time of 8:28.87 (2022) puts him in first place. Sid Vaughn is second at 8:29.45 (2016), and Noah Hayes is third with 8:30.28 (2022).
- 3200 Meters: Bejan Abtahi holds the record at 9:04.50 (2010). Matt Cleaver is second with 9:06.88 (2010), followed by Brian Detweiler at 9:15.25 (2010).
Relay Performances
- 400 Meters - Relay Split: Xai Ricks and Will Floyd both recorded 45.7h (2025). Shemar Chambers ran 46.8h (2025), and Ervin Pearson III recorded 46.9h (2025).
Olympic Achievements
UGA track and field athletes have also made their mark on the Olympic stage. Godwin and Irby collected bronze medals from Olympic relay. Norman Edwards was also an Olympic medalist. Reese Hoffa is another notable name.
