Living at UCLA: A Guide to University Apartments South

Your residential community serves as your home during your time at UCLA. Whether you find yourself in a high-rise hall, a plaza building, a residential suite, or an apartment, numerous resources and amenities are available to enhance your living experience. All communities are supported by live-in staff, with apartment resident assistants dedicated to both University Apartments North and University Apartments South in off-campus locations. On-campus communities benefit from resident directors, RAs, and faculty-in-residence.

Understanding University Apartments South

University Apartments South (UA South) provides a unique living environment for UCLA students. It's crucial to understand the resources available, community guidelines, and opportunities for involvement.

University Apartments South Residents Association (UASRA)

The University Apartments South Residents Association (UASRA) plays a vital role in the UA South community. Established in 1962, UASRA aims to support and further the interests of the residents. A monthly Association fee of $6.00 per apartment is a requirement of the rental agreement. This fee is included in your monthly rental rate and is listed as a separate item on your housing account.

UASRA's Objectives:

According to its Constitution, UASRA works to:

  • Address Community Needs: Studying the needs of the UAS community and exploring with the University the means to best meet these needs.
  • Facilitate Communication: Communicating to UAS residents all pertinent and essential information.
  • Promote Social Growth: Planning the use of the UASRA recreational and cultural resources for the encouragement of social growth between and among residents.
  • Advise on Resource Management: Advising the University in the planning and use of operational resources so that proper standards of maintenance and improvement of the physical plant and facilities are made.
  • Act as a Liaison: Acting as a liaison between the UAS community and associate bodies of the UCLA Administration and student government.
  • Advance Community Goals: Undertaking any other activity for the advancement of the objectives of UASRA.

Getting Involved with UASRA:

Every year, UASRA elects officers to lead the association. These positions include:

Elections are held annually in May, with one-year terms beginning on July 1st. General meetings take place at the Community Center, located at 3200 Sawtelle Boulevard. Childcare and refreshments are provided at all general meetings, and all residents are encouraged to attend and participate. The Residents Association is as productive as you make it.

Southwest Campus Apartments

The Southwest Campus Apartments offer a modern living experience, incorporating more than 2600 students in 358 apartments. The design reflects the Mission Revival tradition of Los Angeles’ Westwood and Brentwood areas, creating a dense grouping of three mid-rise buildings on UCLA’s campus.

Key Features:

  • Warren Plaza: The heart of the project is Warren Plaza: a series of interlinking courtyards, arcades, and paseos, including a 7,500 SF multipurpose room with a kitchen.
  • Connectivity: By connecting to the existing student housing spaces further south, the Southwest Apartments provide enhanced student access to and from the main campus.
  • Flexible Unit Design: The two and four-bedroom units are also uniquely able to flex between graduates and undergraduates with a simple furniture change.
  • Technological Innovations: PCL utilized a variety of technological innovations including drones, 4D tower crane-mounted 360-degree cameras, and C-Below subsurface imaging to provide extant progress photos to the client. Drones continually calibrated survey data. 4D tower crane cameras were used to review field conditions by accessing a live 360-degree field of vision progress data.
