NCCU GPA Requirements and Admission Guidelines for International Students
North Carolina Central University (NCCU) welcomes international students from across the globe. This article provides a detailed overview of the GPA requirements, alongside other essential admission guidelines, for international students seeking to pursue their academic goals at NCCU.
Who is Considered an International Applicant?
Anyone who has completed their education outside of the United States is considered an international applicant, regardless of their citizenship or residency status. International applicants have specific requirements they must fulfill to be considered for admission.
General Admission Requirements for International Students
International applicants cannot be considered for conditional admission. This means that they must meet all admission requirements and receive full admission to a degree program. All international applicants must file a complete application and pay a $50 non-refundable application fee.
Academic Requirements
Official transcripts must be provided from all colleges and universities attended. No other documentation will be accepted. Undergraduate students must have a minimum CGPA of 2.5 to be eligible for study abroad programs.
English Language Proficiency
For programs with a language of instruction other than English, students must have sufficient proficiency in the language of the host country. For most students, this means having completed the equivalent of two years of college study in the foreign language.

Police Clearance or Background Security Check
International applicants must provide a PDF copy of an in-country police clearance or background security check (certified stamped letter). Students should be able to request a police security check from their local police department. The submitted letter must be written in English. If the certified letter was not originally written in English, an official English translation is required. The translated version must be in PDF format and notarized to confirm accuracy and authenticity. The letter is required when a student is transferring from a college or university outside of the United States.
Financial Documentation
International applicants must complete a Financial Statement Certificate of Eligibility (FSCOE) and provide evidence of funding to support their tuition, fees and living expenses. Students being financially funded by a sponsor such as parents, other relatives or friends must provide evidence of funding for their first year of study at NCCU with a bank statement. Students supporting themselves must provide evidence of funding for all years of study. Bank statements should be on official bank letterhead and be signed, stamped or notarized by a bank official. If not, they will not be accepted, which may cause a delay in the admissions process. FSCOE Form is also required for Ph.D. applicants. Bank statements not on official bank letterhead and notarized will not be accepted and may cause a delay in the processing of the admission.
Transfer Students
Are you attending another university and/or college within the United States and wish to transfer to NCCU? To do so, you must submit an F-1 Student Visa Transfer Clearance Form. The form must be signed by your current international student advisor. As well, you must provide signed and dated copies of all Certificates of Eligibility (I-20) from your current and any previous schools, if applicable (all pages of form I-20 are required), an I-94 Arrival/Departure Record, a valid passport copy, and an F-1 visa page. You cannot transfer into an NC Central graduate program and must apply for admission.
Visa Requirements
F-1 Student Visas are granted or denied by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). with the proper documentation, or you may apply for change of non-immigrant status with USCIS.
Immunization and Health Insurance
Submit your immunization records immediately to Student Health Services when you arrive. Immunization appointments can be made in Student Health Services. Call 919-530-6317 to schedule an appointment. A medical history form must be completed. The North Carolina Central University Student Medical Insurance Plan is required of all international students. NCCU requires international students to enroll in the university health insurance plan through Student Health Services. If the required immunizations are not completed within 30 days of enrollment, your registration will be canceled by Student Health Services, an action that may affect your visa status.

Standardized Testing: SAT and ACT
North Carolina Central University recommends that you take the SAT or ACT.
SAT
Many schools say they have no SAT score cutoff, but the truth is that there is a hidden SAT requirement. The 25th percentile SAT score is 820, and the 75th percentile SAT score is 970. North Carolina Central University will take your highest section score from all your test dates, then combine them to form your Superscore. Because you can choose which tests to send in, and North Carolina Central University forms your Superscore, you can take the SAT as many times as you want, then submit only the tests that give you the highest Superscore. Therefore, if your SAT superscore is currently below a 820, we strongly recommend that you consider prepping for the SAT and retaking it. Even better, because of the Superscore, you can focus all your energy on a single section at a time. If your Reading score is lower than your other sections, prep only for the Reading section, then take the SAT. Then focus on Math for the next test, and so on.
ACT
The average ACT score at North Carolina Central University is 19. The 25th percentile ACT score is 15, and the 75th percentile ACT score is 20. Here it is: when you send ACT scores to colleges, you have absolute control over which tests you send. You could take 10 tests, and only send your highest one. This means that you have more chances than you think to improve your ACT score. To try to aim for the school's ACT requirement of 15 and above, you should try to take the ACT as many times as you can. By and large, most colleges do not superscore the ACT.
SAT Essay/ACT Writing Section
North Carolina Central University considers the SAT Essay/ACT Writing section optional and may not include it as part of their admissions consideration.
Additional Factors in Admission
Note: Your admission decision relies not only on your GPA and SAT/ACT scores, but also on your coursework difficulty, extracurriculars, letters of recommendation, and personal statements.

Application Process
Every school requires an application with the bare essentials - high school transcript and GPA, application form, and other core information. Many schools, as explained above, also require SAT and ACT scores, as well as letters of recommendation, application essays, and interviews.
Application Fee
The application fee is $50 USD (non-refundable). When you complete your application online, you can submit your payment electronically with a debit or credit card. We do accept SAT/Collegeboard fee waivers for freshman applications.
Enrollment
You must accept the offer of admission. To change or defer their enrollment term, students must complete a new application for their new desired term. Students who change their term to the next upcoming semester will not be required to pay an additional fee with the new application. Students who change their term non-consecutively by skipping over the upcoming semester will be required to pay an additional $50 fee with the new application.
NCCU Acceptance Rate
The acceptance rate at North Carolina Central University is 87%. Because this school is lightly selective, you have a great shot at getting in, as long as you don't fall well below average. Aim for a 820 SAT or a 15 ACT or higher, and you'll almost certainly get an offer of admission.
