Kappa Alpha Psi (ΚΑΨ), a distinguished international historically Black fraternity, has cultivated a widespread network of alumni chapters, extending its influence far beyond its undergraduate origins. The Genesis of Alumni Chapters
Following its establishment at Indiana University in 1911, Kappa Alpha Psi quickly expanded, chartering undergraduate chapters at prominent institutions such as the University of Illinois (now, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) (1913), University of Iowa (1914), and Wilberforce University, Lincoln University (the second oldest historically black university), and Ohio State University (1915). The first chapter in the South came in 1919, at Meharry Medical College - Kappa chapter. By 1921, the fraternity had grown to 17 active chapters.
Recognizing the need to provide continued support and fellowship for its members beyond their college years, Kappa Alpha Psi established alumni chapters. These chapters offered a platform for Kappa men to maintain their bonds, contribute to their communities, and uphold the fraternity's ideals throughout their lives.

Detroit Alumni Chapter
The Detroit Alumni Chapter, chartered on April 3, 1920, stands as a testament to the fraternity's enduring legacy. Founded by McKinley Carey, Joseph D. Duplessis, Leoniadas Curtis, and Fred Jones, with Dr. E. A. Carter and Newton Dolphin joining as charter members, the chapter emerged from a need similar to that of Kappa men in Chicago. Grand Polemarch Irven Armstrong recognized their vision, making Detroit Alumni the second alumni chapter of the fraternity. As of its charter date, the fraternity now had fourteen active chapters, 12 undergraduate and two alumni. Early members included founders Bryon K. Armstrong and Henry T. Asher, as well as Victor LaNier Hicks and Ossian H. Sweet. The Detroit Alumni Chapter mirrored the national organization's role in addressing the social, economic, and political needs of Negro male college students, particularly during the post-World War I era when the Negro population in northern industrial cities nearly doubled. Kappa men relied on their fraternity brothers for support as they settled in urban areas.

Memphis Alumni Chapter
The Memphis Alumni Chapter, chartered on September 24, 1934, has a long-standing history with not only Kappa Alpha Psi, but with the Memphis community. From mentoring and tutoring young children to giving out holiday gift baskets to collaborating with other community service organizations, Memphis Alumni Chapter has made itself felt as a presence in the city of Memphis. The Brothers of Memphis Alumni realize that to reach the mountaintops of greatness, one has to travel through the valleys of hard work and sacrifice. It is only because of those who have come before us that we are able to boast of the heights we have achieved; for it is on their shoulders we stand. The chapter's charter members included Henry E. Oates, I. A. Gentry, Henry Amos, Homer D. Coke, E. W. Weed, I. J. Graham, A. K. Davis, Richard Oates, Edward Lattimer, and R. J.
Atlanta Alumni Chapter
The Atlanta (GA) Alumni Chapter stands as a beacon of service and achievement. For over a century, the chapter has been deeply ingrained in the Atlanta community, partnering with organizations like Hosea Feed the Hungry, The Department of Family and Child Services, and the Atlanta Public Schools. Their Kappa Alpha Psi's national Guide Right program focuses on mentoring and supporting young people.
