This article explores the lives and accomplishments of some of the most notable alumni of this esteemed fraternity.

The Origins of Phi Kappa Psi

The story of Phi Kappa Psi begins in the winter of 1850, when a typhoid fever epidemic struck Jefferson College in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. Amidst the crisis, two college students, William Henry Letterman and Charles Page Thomas Moore, selflessly cared for their stricken friends. Through the long night vigils, they began to appreciate the great joy they received from selflessly helping others. This experience led them to recognize the profound joy derived from serving others. On February 19, 1852, Letterman and Moore invited their friends to a meeting. They wanted to discuss creating a brotherhood based on the great joy of serving others. Travel was impossible that harsh winter night, however, so with no one else present, the two men alone founded Phi Kappa Psi. From that meeting, Phi Kappa Psi was born and a tradition of service and excellence has followed. Today, over 116,000 men have been deemed worthy of membership. A brotherhood of honorable men, courteous and cultured, have pledged their lives to be loyal members of the Fraternity, their college and their community. Inspired by this experience, they resolved to establish a fraternity grounded in "the great joy of serving others."

A Brotherhood Dedicated to Service and Excellence

Phi Kappa Psi is more than just a fraternity; it is an association of men of integrity committed to personal development, community involvement, and faith. The fraternity unites the principles and traditions of its past with the resources and creativity of the present, providing an environment where members can realize their highest potential. This commitment is reflected in the fraternity's mission: to foster the development of leaders and to promote academic excellence in higher education.

The fraternity's core values are deeply ingrained in its members, shaping them into committed scholars and upstanding citizens who understand the importance of serving something greater than themselves.
