This program allows participants to contribute to the success of the NFL organization while gaining an unmatched, behind-the-scenes learning experience. Interns work within specific departments across three League Offices (NY, NJ, and CA) and gain exposure to the business of professional football through speaker presentations, hands-on assignments, and networking opportunities. This program is also available to undergraduate seniors (including students completing their 5th consecutive year) looking to enhance their business exposure and management skills, this program will offer you an unparalleled opportunity to immerse yourself into the world of professional football through a series of challenging work assignments, League events, and networking opportunities.
Seasonal Internships: Athletic Training Focus
Internships vary throughout the NFL, with typically one to two seasonal internships available per team. The majority of NFL teams require that seasonal internship applicants are certified athletic trainers and have either graduated from an accredited undergraduate or graduate Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP). These internships often start in the spring and extend through the end of the NFL season.
Responsibilities of a Seasonal Athletic Training Intern
A seasonal intern's role will vary from team to team, but they are typically involved with duties on a daily basis, continually demonstrating the ability to serve as a productive member of the athletic training staff. As seasonal interns progress, they gain more responsibilities relative to field setup and breakdown for practice and game days, taping duties, and stretching responsibilities. They may help with rehabilitation protocols, provide support during practice, and pack and prepare trunks for away games.
Application and Timing
Current students who are enrolled in an accredited Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) can apply in the Fall for open positions for each team, which will begin in the Summer. Teams rely heavily on summer/training camp interns for coverage of the larger number of players present.
