Tom J. Case Memorial Scholarship

The Tom J. Case Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the legacy of longtime Credit Union One Board Member Tom J. Case, whose commitment to community, education, and opportunity continues to inspire. This scholarship supports students pursuing higher education.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for the Tom J. Case Memorial Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Maintain membership with Credit Union One in good standing throughout the scholarship cycle. For the purposes of this scholarship, a member in good standing is defined as a member of Credit Union One of Oklahoma who has no delinquent loans or negative account balances, has not caused the credit union a financial loss, and is not subject to any legal or administrative restrictions on their account.
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited institution. Full time is defined as at least 12 credit hours per semester for college and university, or as otherwise classified by the institution.

Important Dates

The scholarship cycle begins September 1, 2025, and ends March 31, 2026. Winners will be contacted by February 15th, 2026.

Disqualification

Applicants may be disqualified if they fail to meet eligibility requirements, submit false, plagiarized, or incomplete information, or for any other reasons as decided by the TJC Scholarship Committee.

American 1 Credit Union Scholarships and Grants

American 1 Credit Union offers the Continued Education Scholarship and the Board of Directors Grant to support students residing in specific Michigan counties.

Continued Education Scholarship

Graduating high school seniors may be entered to win a $1000 scholarship each when they submit the Continued Education Scholarship form located at american1cu.org/scholarships.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Students must plan to attend college, complete a certificate, or join a trade school in 2026.
  • Students must reside in one of the following counties: Jackson, Hillsdale, Calhoun, Lenawee, or Washtenaw.
  • Membership with American 1 Credit Union is not required to apply but is required if selected as a scholarship recipient.

Important Dates

Submissions must be completed between February 9, 2026, and April 6, 2026. Ten winners will be selected on April 27, 2026, and prizes will be awarded within 60 days of the drawing.

Additional Terms

  • One application is allowed per student.
  • Recipients agree that their name may be used for promotional purposes to enhance awareness of American 1 Credit Union’s Continued Education Scholarship Program.
  • Members must remain in good standing through the scholarship promotion period to remain eligible.
  • Employees, board members, and immediate family members are not eligible for the Continued Education Scholarship.

Board of Directors Grant

Individuals may be entered to win a $2,500 grant when they submit the Board of Directors Grant form located at american1cu.org/grants. Recipients may have the additional opportunity to renew the Board of Directors Grant for up to four years ($10,000 in total); additional requirements may apply for renewal.

  • Applicants must be currently pursuing an associate, undergraduate, or graduate degree from an accredited college or university or currently enrolled in a trade-school program at the time of application.

Union Plus Scholarship Program

The Union Plus Scholarship Program provides scholarships to students of union families, supporting their pursuit of higher education.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Current and retired members of participating unions, their spouses, and their dependent children (as defined by IRS regulations) are eligible.
  • Applicants, their spouses, or parents (if the applicant is a dependent) must have at least one year of continuous union membership. The one-year membership minimum must be satisfied by May 31 of the scholarship year.

Evaluation Criteria

This is a competitive scholarship. Applicants are evaluated according to academic ability, social awareness, financial need, and appreciation of labor. A GPA of 3.0 or higher is recommended.

Important Dates

Applications must be received by (noon) Eastern Standard Time on January 31 of the scholarship year. Applications received after this deadline will not be considered.

Scholarship Award Amounts

Amounts range from $500 to $4,000. These one-time cash awards are for study beginning in the fall of the awarded year. Students may re-apply each year.

Isaiah's Award was created to honor the exceptional life of Isaiah C., a beloved child, fostered and adopted by a current, long-time employee of Union Plus. Isaiah was a smart, talented, spiritual, generous, and kind young man. It is the wish that his gentle spirit live on, in part, through this namesake scholarship.

Eligibility for Isaiah's Award

Applicants for Isaiah's Award must have a special connection to the foster care system and will be asked in their application to describe their personal, employment, volunteer experiences, or career goals related to the foster care system.

Award Date

The Scholarship Committee will determine recipients of scholarship awards by May 31 each year. Due to the volume of applications, the committee cannot provide any information on the status of an application before award announcements are made.
