While Bowling Green State University (BGSU) does not have a strict minimum GPA requirement for its applicants, the GPA requirement that really matters is the GPA you need for a real chance of getting in. The average GPA at Bowling Green State University is 3.4, with a range for most admitted students between 3.0 and 3.7. BGSU requires you to be above average in your high school class. Many schools say they have no SAT score cutoff, but the truth is that there is a hidden SAT requirement. The 25th percentile SAT score is 1020, and the 75th percentile SAT score is 1300. In other words, a 1020 places you below average, while a 1300 will move you up to above average.
Bowling Green State University only considers your highest score on a single test date, you can take the SAT as many times as you want, then submit your strongest score. Therefore, if your SAT score is currently below a 1020, it is strongly recommended that you consider prepping for the SAT and retaking it.
ACT Scores
The average ACT score at Bowling Green State University is 22. The 25th percentile ACT score is 19, and the 75th percentile ACT score is 26. To try to aim for the school's ACT requirement of 19 and above, you should try to take the ACT as many times as you can.

High school students are encouraged to apply for admission beginning July 1 between their junior and senior years. Prospective students who wish to enroll fall semester are encouraged to apply and have all admissions credentials completed by March 1 to assure consideration. The application deadline for main campus is December 1 for spring semester and May 15 for summer term, although earlier closings may occur.
Important Deadline Information for International Applicants
International applicants must meet earlier application and credential deadlines to allow for additional processing time of all required paperwork. Fall semester applicants must submit all credentials by July 5. Additional Admission Considerations
Some majors at BGSU require an additional review of your application after being admitted to the University. Admission to the BFA degree is competitive, but does not require a Portfolio Review for entrance into the School of Art. Prospective students wishing to pursue a BFA degree in the School of Art will be admitted as pre-BFA students and will be fully admitted to the School of Art without a Portfolio Review. Pre-Programs
Pre-computer science/software engineering will be offered to students who don’t initially meet the requirements. Students will receive support from a student success team as you prepare to fully integrate into the Department of Computer Science. If students don’t meet the requirements above, some will be offered a major of pre-forensic science, and others will have their major changed to the Deciding Students Program. If students don’t meet the requirements above, they will be offered entrance into the Pre-Business Program where they will get support in math, be able to take Business courses, have access to a Life Design Coach and receive guidance from Business Academic Advisors.
Advanced Placement (AP) and College Credit Plus
BGSU credit is awarded based on the score earned on the final AP examination. Students who earn college credit through College Credit Plus or other post secondary enrollment options must send an official transcript from each institution attended to the BGSU Office of Admissions when courses are completed.
Admission as a Guest Student
Students who wish to take classes at Bowling Green but do not plan to seek a BGSU degree can attend as “guest" students. If you have not taken coursework anywhere (high school or college) during the past five years, you are eligible for admission to the University.

The statement of purpose should also explain the applicant's goals for their MA program; namely, do they seek to use the MA to pursue further education (e.g., a PhD), or do they seek to use it for professional development.

- Short personal introduction (no more than one page)
- Why interested in pursuing a MA program in Communication and why chose BGSU
- What challenges you expect in studying for a MA program and your preparation for it
- Description of courses taken that are related to the study in the graduate program
- Relate your purpose of study to the specializations in the MA program international/intercultural specialization or generalist option with ONE of the three emphasis areas of study in BGSU Media and Communication PhD program.
- Prior research, teaching and work experience that you think will benefit your study and qualify for assistantship in the program
- Specify BGSU faculty of interest (can be more than one) and why interested in working with them
Ph.D. Programs
- Ph.D. Master degree (MA, MS, MFA) from an accredited master’s program
- Minimum 3.2 grade-point average (GPA)
- English requirements set by the Graduate College of BGSU (International students only)
- A statement of purpose that explains the applicant's research interests, and situates those interests within one of the School's three areas of emphasis. The statement of purpose should also explain how their research interests intersect with those of specific graduate faculty in the School.
