Eligibility Criteria for the Wisconsin Academic Scholarship
To be eligible for the Wisconsin Academic Scholarship, students must meet specific criteria related to enrollment, GPA, and academic standing. GPA and Academic Performance
Candidates for the Wisconsin Academic Scholarship are selected solely based on grade point average. As per state statute, students with the highest grade point average (GPA) in all subjects, in the first seven semesters of their high school program, are eligible for this scholarship. Appleton Area School District High Schools will use an unweighted 4.0 grade point scale to compute GPA. Courses completed by students participating in study abroad programs will be accepted on a pass/fail basis.
Enrollment Requirements
Students enrolled in the Appleton Area School District, who have reached senior status, are eligible for the Wisconsin Academic Scholarship. Students must have been enrolled full-time for at least four consecutive semesters prior to the second semester of their senior year to be eligible for the Wisconsin Academic Scholarship.

Post-Secondary Enrollment
In order to receive a scholarship, a student must be enrolled on a full-time basis by September 30th of the academic year following the academic year in which he or she was designated as a scholar, at a participating University of Wisconsin, Wisconsin Technical College, or independent institution in the state. The recipients must attend a Wisconsin public, technical, or independent college. If they later choose not to attend a Wisconsin college, the scholarship will go to the next person on the list.
Scholarship Amount and Funding
The value of the scholarship is $2,250 per year, to be applied towards tuition. Recipients are eligible to receive the AES for up to 8 semesters. Half of the scholarship is funded by the state, while the other half is matched by the institution. Half of the scholarship is funded by the Wisconsin Higher Educational Aids Board (HEAB), while the other half is funded by UWM. The UWM portion of your scholarship is applied to your semester tuition charges as a waiver.
Understanding the Billing Statement
The UWM portion of the Academic Excellence Scholarship does not appear under ‘anticipated aid’ on your billing statement because it is a tuition waiver, not a payment.

The scholarship committee of each high school will determine the recipients of the Wisconsin Academic Excellence Higher Education scholarships.
