Understanding Purdue University Tuition Due Dates and Payment Options

Navigating the financial aspects of university education can be complex. This article provides a comprehensive overview of Purdue University's tuition due dates, payment options, and related financial aid information, with specific references to Purdue University Northwest (PNW) and the Veterinary Technology Distance Learning (VTDL) program.

Tuition and Fees Overview

The amount of tuition and mandatory fees assessed depends on the number of credits a student registers to take. Purdue University Northwest (PNW) generates electronic bills (eBill Statements) every month for student accounts that have balances. Any charges not covered by anticipated financial assistance are due by the tuition due date for each specific bill.

  • Fall 2025: September 29, 2025
  • Spring 2026: February 9, 2026
  • Summer I: June 18, 2026
  • Summer II: July 29, 2026

Late Fees and Account Holds

A late payment fee of $20 is charged each month an account is past due. A past due account hold will be placed on the account when there is a delinquent financial obligation to the university, preventing several actions.

Military Payment Plan

Students receiving military benefits can enroll in a military payment plan at the Office of the Bursar. This plan allows an extra month to begin making payments of 33 percent each. The first payment, plus a $1 enrollment fee, is due before the enrollment deadline of February 9, 2026.

Financial Aid

Financial aid can include grants, loans, scholarships, and work-study jobs. Financial aid packages vary depending on financial need, primarily determined by the FAFSA.

Late Drop Petition

The Office of Student Conduct and Care (OSCC) handles Late Drop Petition requests from the first day of 0% refunds to 30 days after. Petitions are considered if university errors or extenuating circumstances prevented dropping the course(s) before the deadline. Documentation addressing the inability to drop the course(s) by the deadline is required.

Petition for Exception to the Refund Policy

If past the 30-day deadline for the Late Drop petition, you can withdraw from classes and submit a Petition for an Exception to the Refund Policy if there are significant or unusual circumstances outside your control that cause your involuntary withdrawal from any or all classes.

Veterinary Technology Distance Learning (VTDL) Program Specifics

The VTDL program has specific tuition and fee structures, as well as academic requirements.

VTDL Tuition

The tuition for all VTDL courses, including mentorship courses, is $270 per credit hour, regardless of residency.

Academic Standards

The VTDL program has academic standards higher than those of the University. A student at Purdue University has three opportunities to attempt a course. Attempts include a grade, a “W” or withdrawal, failure, or an “I” or incomplete. If a student is not successful after three attempts, they will not be allowed to register for the course a fourth time.

Prerequisites

Most courses in the VTDL program require the completion of pre-requisite courses before enrollment. These courses prepare students for the material presented. Some pre-requisites may have a “CC” designation, meaning they can be taken concurrently.

Clinical Mentorships

Mentorships are task-based classes completed in a veterinary facility local to the student. Additional clinical mentorship documents must be completed via Microsoft Forms. Once these forms are completed and received by the Veterinary Technology Office, an override is completed that will allow you to register for the clinical mentorship(s).

Rabies Vaccination

The VTDL program does not require students to be vaccinated for rabies, but strongly encourages it. The exception is for students participating in workshops on the West Lafayette, IN campus or other off-campus fast-track labs, where rabies vaccination is mandatory.

Additional Resources

  • MyPurdue: Access academic and financial account information.
  • MyPurduePlan: Graduation audit listing completed courses, descriptions, pre-requisites, a degree planner, and GPA calculator.
  • Brightspace: Purdue University's Learning Management System (LMS) for online courses.

  • Holds: A hold signifies that a student is restricted from enrolling in classes and/or obtaining academic transcripts.
  • Brightspace Access: Classes may not appear if you have not registered or paid your bill.
  • Textbooks: Check for digital availability through Purdue Libraries before purchasing.
  • Instructor Contact: Find contact information on the course syllabus.
  • Technical Issues: Contact your instructor as soon as possible.
  • Password Expiry: Ensure your password is up-to-date to avoid access issues.
