Wellspring Foundation: Cultivating Holistic Education and Thriving Communities
The Wellspring Foundation is dedicated to nurturing the full potential of every child through education and fostering supportive school communities. Working collaboratively with teachers, leaders, parents, and community leaders, Wellspring strives to empower children and youth across Rwanda and the surrounding region. Their goal is to cultivate wellbeing, character, and resilience, enabling them to build a vibrant and peaceful future.
A Holistic Approach to Education
Wellspring's work emphasizes holistic, whole-child education, recognizing that learning extends beyond grades to encompass social, emotional, personal, and relational development. This approach acknowledges the importance of nurturing every aspect of a child's being to ensure their overall success and wellbeing.
Transforming Communities in Rwanda
The impact of Wellspring's work is evident in the communities they serve. Increased school attendance, support for vulnerable children, improved academic results, and transformed communities are just some of the tangible outcomes.
Philip Reilly, a member of Wellspring's Canadian team, recently witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of the foundation's work during a visit to Rwanda. He observed the remarkable changes in Kigali, noting the growth in infrastructure and a vibrant economy. He also noted the changes within the Wellspring Foundation, which continues to evolve.
During his visit to schools in Rubavu, near Lake Kivu and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Reilly spent time with school leadership, family advisors, parents, and students. He was struck by the tangible impact of Wellspring's work, including increased attendance, support for vulnerable children, improved results, and changed communities.

Social and Emotional Learning: Equipping Students for Life
Reilly had the privilege of observing students during their social and emotional learning sessions. He was impressed by their openness and ability to share their feelings in a safe and compassionate environment. These sessions are part of the Youth First Rwanda program, a partnership with WorldBeing in collaboration with the Rwanda Basic Education Board and the Rwanda Ministry of Education. This program equips students with the tools and skills to navigate the complexities of life in a holistic and positive way.
International Recognition and Collaboration
Wellspring was honored to join fellow members of the BC Council for International Cooperation in Vancouver for a gathering with Canada's Secretary of State for International Development, The Honourable Randeep Sarai. This event highlighted the importance of global collaboration in making a difference in the lives of children and communities around the world.
Wellspring recognizes that every act of service and every action that upholds the dignity of another person contributes to building a better world.
Wellspring Foundation of Southwest Virginia: Enhancing Health and Wellbeing
Established in the fall of 2021, the Wellspring Foundation of Southwest Virginia enhances the health and wellbeing of Virginia residents of Washington, Grayson, Russell and Smyth counties by cultivating goal-oriented partnerships. The PATH campaign aims to raise awareness about local, free education opportunities and, ultimately, shift perceptions regarding the affordability of college. The campaign aligns perfectly with the foundation's overall vision to promote a healthy, thriving Southwest Virginia through purposeful partnerships. Education and workforce development are key areas of interest to the Wellspring Foundation, and local community colleges are designed and equipped to address the major workforce needs in the region.
The Wellspring Foundation of Southwest Virginia is working together with sister community colleges on this initiative. Each college offers different tuition-free programs designed to help anyone who wants to go to community college after high school graduation. These programs can cover not only an associate’s degree but also trade certifications and other training.
