- Education Benefits: The Employee Continuing Education Program offers tuition assistance for eligible employees to seek higher degrees, certificates, or licenses that support their work. Eligible employees and their spouses/domestic partners can take up to two tuition-free W&L courses per academic term. Employees receive up to 50% tuition assistance at any accredited institution of higher education and 90% of tuition assistance for dependents accepted and attending W&L. W&L also participates in tuition remission exchange programs with the Associated Colleges of the South and the Great Lakes Colleges Association.

As an example of the opportunities available, the Department of Mathematics and the Data Science Program at Washington and Lee University invite applications for a joint tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Data Science starting July 1, 2026.
Responsibilities and Expectations
The successful candidate will contribute to a dynamic and welcoming environment that allows students and employees of multiple backgrounds and perspectives to learn, work, and thrive together, and exhibit potential for excellence in teaching and for vigorous scholarship. The ideal candidate will develop new innovative interdisciplinary courses, with an emphasis on modern pedagogy and inclusive excellence and be able to bring their applied research interests into the classroom. The teaching load will be equally split between mathematics and data science over any given two-year period. Almost all W&L students will take at least one mathematics course before they graduate, and the Mathematics Department offers a variety of engaging courses at all levels that serve its student body. The faculty mentor a large, active, and growingly diverse group of talented students; the number of mathematics majors is five times the national average for a school its size. The academic year is broken into two 12-week terms and a 4-week term. The teaching load is 5 courses per year with small class sizes of 15 - 25 students, and the university offers a generous sabbatical policy among many other benefits.
Qualifications
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in mathematics, a successful record in research, and have demonstrated passion for excellence in teaching. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to contribute meaningfully to both the Mathematics Department and the interdisciplinary Data Science program.
