Eligibility Requirements for VIZ Media Internships

To be eligible for a VIZ Media internship, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Location: Be able to commute to the San Francisco office (94103).
  • Work Authorization: Be legally available to work in the United States.
  • Age: Be at least 18 years of age at the time of the start of the internship.
  • Availability: Be available to work at least 3 days per week between the hours of 10-5 on weekdays (schedule TBD), to a max of 24 hours.

All interns will be compensated at an hourly rate. (Rates are viewable on the individual internship page descriptions.) VIZ Media interns are not eligible for VIZ benefits.

Internship Structure and Compensation

For visualization students seeking academic credit, internships must be paid to earn credit. A supervised course spanning 15 weeks and 600 hours, the program allows students to receive a maximum of 6 credit hours for successfully completing their internship. Compensation for an internship will be handled by the organization you are interning for. To get credit for your internship, you must submit a detailed portfolio that describes your internship experience and the Internship Completion Form.

Editorial Intern Responsibilities and Skills

One example of an internship offered by VIZ Media is the Editorial Intern position. This role supports the Editorial Department, which is responsible for editing and producing VIZ Media's graphic novels and trade books. The Editorial Intern's responsibilities may include:

  • Copyediting: Copyedit manga proofs and scripts as a second reader.
  • Editorial Research: Conduct assigned editorial research.
  • Style Guide Creation: Create series style guides.
  • Quality Control: Check printed books.
  • Data Entry: Perform data entry and copying.

  • Japanese Language Skills (Preferred): Japanese reading/writing ability PREFERRED but not required
