Community College of Vermont (CCV): Accessible and Affordable Education

The Community College of Vermont (CCV) stands out for its commitment to accessibility and affordability. CCV offers over 30 flexible programs, with day and evening classes available in person or online. This flexibility caters to students with diverse schedules and commitments, making education attainable for a broader range of individuals. The high-demand, high-pay jobs in Vermont require college or training.

Tuition-Free Opportunities: 802Opportunity

One of CCV's most significant initiatives is the 802Opportunity program. In partnership with VSAC (Vermont Student Assistance Corporation), this program provides tuition-free education to Vermonters with a family income of $100,000 or less. Funded by the Vermont Legislature, the 802Opportunity is open to new or returning students of any age who do not already have a bachelor's degree.

Eligibility for 802Opportunity

To be eligible for the 802Opportunity program, students must meet the following criteria:

Be a Vermont resident of any age whose family adjusted gross income is $100,000 or less as reflected on their FAFSA.
Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
Pursue an associate degree or certificate at CCV.
Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and a Vermont grant application.
Be a high school graduate or equivalent.
Not already have a bachelor's degree.
If already enrolled at CCV, the student must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Tuition for eligible students is covered in full when 802Opportunity is combined with the federal Pell grant, the Vermont state grant and the Green Mountain Grad. The $100 CCV administrative fee is also covered. Course fees and textbooks are not covered.

Addressing Barriers to Access

CCV recognizes that financial barriers extend beyond tuition costs. To address these challenges, CCV offers 12 locations in Vermont and the Center for Online Learning with hundreds of online courses to choose from. If you have a laptop and internet connection where you live, online courses let you access your education without needing to travel. Some programs can be completed entirely online. Programs and Courses at CCV

CCV offers a wide range of programs designed to meet the needs of Vermont's workforce. These include associate degrees and certificate programs in various fields.

Associate Degrees

CCV offers associate degree programs leading to associate of arts (A.A.) and associate of science (A.S.) degrees. And with CCV’s transfer agreements within the Vermont State College System and schools such as UVM, students can apply their associate-program credits toward bachelor’s degrees. CCV offers 11 associate degree programs and 22 certificate programs with day and evening classes. Some programs can be completed entirely online.

Certificate Programs

Examples of certificate programs include:

Pharmacy Technician: Prepares students to work as a pharmacy technician under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
Workplace Skills: Provides students with the skills necessary to be successful in today's workplace: good communication, problem solving, critical thinking, and decision making.

Completing Your Degree

For students who have some college credits but have not finished their degree, CCV offers the opportunity to finish what you started, tuition free.

CCV Community College Tuition Match Scholarship Program

The CCV Community College Tuition Match Scholarship Program allows qualified students, who enroll in a bachelor’s degree program, to receive the community college tuition rates that are in effect for the applicable academic year.

In order to qualify for the tuition match discount program, students need to meet the following requirements:

Complete an associate degree at CCV.
Matriculate at Charter Oak State College within 12 months of completing Associate’s degree.
Must be a first time matriculant to Charter Oak State College.

Eligible students should apply for Federal Pell Grants to help cover the cost of their college expenses; students will be responsible for course materials, books, student services fee, technology fee and any other course related expenses.
