Navigating the UT Dallas Student Portal: A Comprehensive Guide
The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) Student Portal serves as a central hub for students to manage their academic journey, access resources, and stay connected with the university community. This guide provides a comprehensive overview of the portal's features and functionalities, ensuring students can effectively utilize this valuable tool.
Activating Your Account and Accessing Courses
New students can activate their accounts by visiting the UT Dallas NetID Self-Service page. This NetID provides access to various university systems, including the Student Portal. Remember that your account password must be updated every year via the NetID webpage.
Courses can be accessed through eLearning after the semester starts. Students can select “Courses” from the left menu bar to see a list of their active courses. Instructors may utilize built-in tools within eLearning to facilitate learning, communication, interaction, and collaboration, such as Discussion Boards, Groups, and Blackboard Collaborate.
Schedule Planning and Course Registration
The Student Portal allows students to plan their class schedules efficiently. You can search for courses by subject and course number. The portal enables you to input times when you are unavailable to take classes. This can be done by adding the name of the break, start/end times, and days of the week when you will not be able to take classes.
The system will provide an error message if there are time conflicts or other problems with the requested schedule. The "lock" feature allows you to lock a specific section of a course, ensuring that it remains constant on all suggested schedules.

The weekly view of the schedule displays only those classes that have regular meeting times and places. For example, online sections may not appear on the weekly view.
Accommodation Letters and Alternative Testing Arrangements
Students requiring accommodations can request accommodation letters as early as possible each semester via the AIM Student Portal. It is vital to schedule exams within the timeframe your instructor provides in the ATA. Arrive no later than 15 minutes after your scheduled exam time.
Students should meet with their instructors to discuss their accommodation letter and confirm the testing location of their exams. Remind your instructors of your alternative testing arrangements at least five business days before the exam. The ARC Exam Request Form can help facilitate this conversation. Note that the UTD Testing Center operates independently of the ARC. Bring a copy of your accommodation letter each time you visit the Testing Center. For online exams, confirm that your extended time has been applied before you begin.
SEVP Portal: Information for International Students
The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) Portal is an optional tool for F-1 students to manage their information. The SEVP Portal shares information with the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), but does not provide direct access to SEVIS. The SEVP Portal is maintained by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program.
Updating information in the SEVP Portal is optional. The ISSO is not notified directly when you make an update through the SEVP Portal. It is your responsibility to submit the correct reporting documents, depending on if you are on Post-Completion OPT or STEM OPT. Not all updates will generate a new I-20.

SEVP Portal and I-20 Forms
You cannot print an I-20 directly from the SEVP Portal. Only the ISSO can issue your Form I-20.
OPT Reporting and the SEVP Portal
Even if you update your information in the SEVP Portal, you still need to fill out an OPT Reporting Form. There are limits to what OPT information you can update in the SEVP Portal. For instance, you cannot add a new employer more than 10 days after the start date of the employment. SEVP will not accept new employer input in the student portal if you are outside of the 10-day reporting window.
However, remember that reporting in the SEVP Portal is optional. As long as you submit your report directly to the ISSO (in iComet) within 10 days of employment or address changes, then you have timely reported and fulfilled your OPT requirements.
STEM Extension and the SEVP Portal
If you are on the STEM Extension, note that STEM OPT has much stricter reporting requirements, and most STEM employer information updates must be directly approved by a DSO with verification of your I-983 document. This means that for most STEM OPT reports (with the exception of small changes like a home address update), it may not be possible to report your updates directly in the SEVP Portal. It is also not possible to submit STEM validations in the SEVP Portal.
You cannot submit STEM Validations through the SEVP Portal. However, checking your information alone does not validate your employment.

SEVIS Updates and the SEVP Portal
After the ISSO updates your SEVIS record, it can take a significant amount of time for the SEVIS database to transfer information to the SEVP Portal.
SEVP Portal Usage and Cost
Using the SEVP Portal is not required. There is no additional cost associated with creating an account or accessing the SEVP Portal.
