Navigating Tuition Payment Options at The University of Texas at Austin

Securing enrollment at The University of Texas at Austin involves more than just course registration. A crucial final step is arranging tuition payment through the "My Tuition Bill" system. Whether paying directly, using financial aid, or through a third party, students must confirm their attendance and arrange for payment to complete their registration. Failure to meet payment deadlines can lead to cancellation of registration and loss of classes.

Understanding Registration and Payment Deadlines

Your registration is not complete until you have gone to My Tuition Bill and made arrangements to have your tuition/fee bill paid. It is your responsibility to ensure that your registration has been completed. To obtain a tuition/fee bill quote or to verify completion of registration, go to My Tuition Bill.

Undergraduate students who register by 15 May must make payment or confirm attendance by 5pm on 15 May; those who register after 15 May must make payment or confirm attendance by the deadline given in the appropriate access period. For undergraduates who register by 4 Jun, full payment or confirmation of attendance must be received by 5pm on 4 Jun. Undergraduates who register after 4 Jun must make payment or confirm attendance by the deadline specified under Registration Procedure Summaries or as instructed at the time of registration. Graduate and professional students must make payment by 5pm on 6 Jun or as instructed at the time of registration.

You are expected to register at your earliest opportunity. If your address is not correct on the registration information sheet, or you wish to update your address after your initial registration access, update your address online.

Accessing Your Tuition Bill

Tuition/fee bills will not be sent. To pay your fee bill online, to confirm attendance for a zero bill, or to pay using financial aid go to My Tuition Bill.

After you have completed your add/drop transactions, go to My Tuition Bill for an add bill quote. These bills are recalculated overnight. If the changes you made in your schedule result in the assessment of additional tuition and/or fees, you must make payment via the Web, or by check or money order.

Full Payment Plan Options

The University of Texas at Austin provides several options for students to pay their tuition in full by the payment deadline.

Electronic Bank Payment

There are two options available for paying online directly from your bank account. To select either option, go to My Tuition Bill online.

  • eCheck: You may pay online just as though you were using a traditional paper check. No authorization form is required. This option does not require a high-assurance EID and can be used by anyone acting as an eProxy.

  • Electronic Funds Transfer: You may pay by direct transfer of funds from your bank using a pre-established account if you have completed an Electronic Funds Transfer Authorization form. Authorizations may be completed online.

Electronic payments that are returned to the University, regardless of the reason, will be treated the same as returned checks. Tuition and financial bars cannot be paid by electronic funds if you have a "no personal check" restriction with Student Accounts Receivable.

Credit Card

Go to My Tuition Bill to pay with MasterCard, Discover, Visa, or American Express. A convenience fee of 2.3% will be charged at the time of payment for all tuition and mandatory fee payments made by credit card. (Rate is subject to change.)

If payment is approved, the registration system will give you an authorization code confirming the transaction. After the payment process is complete, it is the student's responsibility to view their My Tuition Bill and make sure the message “Attendance Confirmed” is displayed.

Check or Money Order

All checks must be drawn on US banks in US dollars. Make checks payable to The University of Texas at Austin and include your name and UT EID on the check. Multiple checks should be sent together if possible to ensure proper account posting. All checks must be drawn on a bank within the United States of America.

If your check is returned to the University, for any reason, your registration will be incomplete. If payment is not received within ten calendar days of the returned check notice, you will not be registered for classes.

Cash

Tuition Loan

You may apply for tuition loans online. An upgraded EID and password are required to create the promissory note and electronically sign. Questions concerning tuition loans should be directed to Texas One Stop.

Zero Bill Confirmation

If your tuition is zero, you must still confirm your attendance before the payment deadline. If a third party, such as the Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan, pays your tuition bill you must confirm attendance before the payment deadline. You may do this via My Tuition Bill. For additional information contact Texas One Stop. If you do not plan to attend classes do not confirm attendance and we will cancel your registration. If your registration is cancelled Student Accounts Receivable will not bill the agency, scholarship, or account for the fees. If you have confirmed attendance and later choose not to attend you must follow normal withdrawal procedures.

Financial Aid

If you are eligible to pay the minimum amount due on your tuition bill with your financial aid, you must do so by clicking the "Pay with Financial Aid" button on My Tuition Bill or pay any remaining balance by the payment deadline.

Questions about eligibility and financial aid awards should be directed to Texas One Stop.

If you are eligible for financial aid, you must make sure there are no required items on your CASH page. Any unpaid financial aid may become your financial responsibility. If the expected financial aid is not available to pay all of your tuition bill by the 12th class day, you must make other arrangements to pay your bill in full by that date, or you will be automatically placed into the installment plan.

Third-Party Payments

Whether you are paying directly, via financial aid, or via a third party (grants, scholarships, Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan, etc.), you must indicate that you will attend and/or arrange for payment.

Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan (TGTP) students must provide a copy of the membership ID card to Student Accounts Receivable the first semester they enroll at The University of Texas at Austin. Texas Tuition Promise Fund (TTPF) plan purchasers must authorize use of the benefits at least three weeks prior to the payment due date each semester at texastuitionpromisefund.com.

Installment Payment Plan

Tuition and required fees may be paid in installments. The installment plan is not available to students who register after the 12th class day.

Students will electronically sign an installment plan promissory note when they sign the Financial Responsibility Statement.

The two-payment installment plan requires minimum payment of $1,500 for Texas residents and $5,000 for non-Texas residents. The remainder of deferrable fees is payable in one installment due September 10, 2025. A $15 service charge to cover the cost of handling will be assessed to each student who has not paid their balance in full by 11:59 PM (CST) on September 10, 2025, the 12th class day, adjusted for adds and drops. A $25 late charge will be assessed for the final installment payment if received after October 16, 2025 by 11:59pm CST. If you are enrolled in the installment plan and subsequently receive a financial aid award, your total tuition and fees will be deducted from your award at the time of disbursement.

Any student who does not pay their tuition bill in full by 11:59 PM CST on the 12th class day (4th class day for the summer) will automatically be enrolled in the installment plan and assessed a nonrefundable $15 installment plan fee. If the remaining balance of the tuition is not paid by the installment deadline, they will be charged an additional $25 late fee. It is the student’s responsibility to track the amount due and payment deadlines on My Tuition Bill.

Three-Payment Installment Plan

Tuition and required fees may be paid in three installments. The first installment consists of one-half of the tuition, a nonrefundable $15 service charge, and the full amount of fees that cannot be paid on the installment plan, such as optional fees, general property deposit, late registration fee, and international student health insurance fee. The first installment is due by the deadline specified in the registration sequence table or as instructed at the time of registration. No late initial installment payments will be accepted; failure to pay the first installment by the due date will result in cancellation of registration. Students must sign a promissory note before the first installment plan payment will be accepted. To sign the note, go to My Tuition Bill - Promissory Note. The second and third installments each consist of one-half of the remaining balance, adjusted for adds and drops. Selection of the three-payment installment plan constitutes an agreement to pay the remaining tuition and fees on time. A $25 late charge is assessed for second and third installment payments received after the due date.
