USF Undergraduate Admissions: A Comprehensive Guide

Freshman Admission

USF considers all high school students, including those earning an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree, as freshman applicants. These students must submit a Freshman (First-Year) application by the freshman deadline; they are not considered transfer students.

Transfer Admission

USF's Transfer Acceptance Rate is moderately high. Of 10,326 transfer applicants, 6,040 were admitted (58%).

Application Options and Deadlines

USF offers several application options, each with its own deadline:

Early Decision I and Early Action: November 1
Early Decision II and Regular Decision: January 15
Priority Deadline: Applications received by the Priority Deadline are given the most consideration.
Final Deadline: April 15th, though you must apply by January 2nd to be considered for scholarships and by March 1st to apply for financial aid.

Academic Requirements

A strong academic record is a crucial component of a successful USF application.

GPA

The recommended GPA requirements for USF are between 3.75 and 4.0. Applicants’ GPA when applying to USF should be between 3.75 and 4.0 to be strong candidates. Having less than this will require compensating by increasing your SAT or ACT score.USF considers weighted GPA as one of its admissions factors. The median weighted GPA for USF is 4.2, and its middle 50 percentile ranges from 4.0 to 4.5, indicating that you will likely have to take higher level classes like AP and IB classes in order to be a competitive candidate for USF. Coursework: A strong academic record of college prep courses shows that you're motivated and that you care to put forth your best work.
Grades: Generally, higher grades are better, particularly in your junior and senior years. Challenging courses are viewed favorably by USF.

Standardized Tests

USF requires freshman applicants to submit official results for at least one college entrance exam (SAT, ACT or CLT). USF's code for SAT is 5828 and for ACT is 0761.

SAT: The recommended SAT requirements for USF are a 1300 to 1340 composite score, combining the reading and writing, and math sections together. You will need a moderately high SAT score in order to get into USF. Applicants should score between 1240 and 1390 on their SAT to be strong candidates for admission to this school. Having less than this will require compensating by using a substitute ACT score or having an above-average GPA.
ACT: The recommended ACT requirements for USF are a 27 composite score combining all English, mathematics, reading, and science sections. You will need a moderate ACT score in order to get into USF. Applicants should score between 24 and 29 on their ACT to be strong candidates for admission to this school. Test-Optional Policy

Students applying for undergraduate admission to USF may choose to omit their standardized test scores. When you apply to USF, you will see a question that asks if you’d like to have your test scores considered for admission and scholarship purposes. Here, you’ll have the choice to select yes or no. If you choose to omit test scores from your application, you will still be eligible for merit-based scholarships. Your application will not be penalized, and it will be considered on the same grounds as students who do submit test scores. If you feel that your test scores are an accurate portrayal of your academic ability, feel free to include your test scores in your application.

Foreign Language Requirement

USF requires units (years) of instruction in a foreign language. For a foreign language waiver, refer to the Florida Counseling for Future Education Handbook. The completed foreign language or ASL courses. Describe the methods to meet the requirement, as well as possible exemptions.

Students can also meet the requirement with college credit in a foreign language or American Sign Language (ASL).

Application Components

Beyond academic performance, USF considers various factors to gain a holistic understanding of each applicant.

High School Transcript

USF accepts unofficial transcripts as long as they are in PDF format and clearly show your full name, your school's name, your courses, and your grades. Unreadable or illegible PDF documents will not be accepted. If you are admitted to USF and you choose to enroll, you’ll be asked to provide your official final transcript.

College Application Essay (Personal Statement)

Your college application essay, also known as your personal statement on the Common App, is a 650-word essay that shares your personal story - something that is important to you, defines who you are as a person (beyond your grades) or has made a memorable impact on your life. The personal statement is different from supplemental essays, which are additional short answers that may be required for certain colleges or universities.

Extracurricular Activities and Community Involvement

Describe what you do outside of academics. We want to learn how you will contribute to our Jesuit mission of social responsibility and being people for others. We encourage you to focus on a few activities that you care deeply about, or activities where you've grown and learned the most. This can certainly include pursuits that you do on your own - painting, poetry, writing music - so don't forget to include those if they are important to you. Some students have deep involvement with only one or two extracurricular activities, and that's fine. If your responsibilities outside of school included commitments to your family (like taking care of a sibling or relative) or work (such as a part-time job), please do also include those in your application.

Tell us how you're involved in your community. Remember, "community" doesn't have to mean your physical town or neighborhood. It can also mean the people you identify with, or groups (formal or informal) you've become a part of throughout your life.

Letter of Recommendation

A letter of recommendation is not required for admission.

English Proficiency

If English is not your native language, you are required to submit official results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or the Duolingo English test.

Additional Information

In addition to your personal statement, we'll look at your response to our short answer question. This response should be distinct from your Common Application essay.

Applying with an A.A. Degree

When you apply to USF and list an A.A. Freshman Evaluation: Submit your test scores and STARS, including your intended A.A. as a freshman applicant. scores and you may qualify for admissions scholarships. A.A. you are attending for dual enrollment. intended completion of the A.A. Submit the Florida A.A. After you apply, submit the STARS with an A.A. admission. 6.005 admission, you will also need to submit the Florida A.A. Submit your final official college transcript that displays completion and award of an A.A. your A.A. degree, you must notify the Office of Admissions immediately. not receive your A.A.
