UCF Knights Women's Volleyball: A History of Excellence

The UCF Knights women's volleyball program proudly represents the University of Central Florida in the highly competitive National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I. As members of the Big 12 Conference, the Knights showcase their talent and determination on their home court, The Venue at UCF, located on the university's main campus in Orlando, Florida.

Early Years and Conference Affiliations (1975-2005)

The foundation of the UCF Knights volleyball program was laid in 1975 under the guidance of Lucy McDaniel, who served as the team's head coach through the 1979 season. The inaugural year was a resounding success, with the Knights achieving an impressive record of 30 wins and 8 losses (30-8-0).

Throughout the years, the program has been affiliated with several conferences, reflecting its growth and evolution. In 1982, the team joined the Sunshine State Conference, marking their first conference affiliation. However, their time in the conference was brief, as they departed after the 1983 season. From 1985 to 1989, the Knights were members of the New South Women's Athletic Conference (NSWAC), further solidifying their presence in collegiate volleyball.

The 1990s saw the Knights transition through various conferences. They joined the American South Conference in 1990 and spent the following year, 1991, in the Sun Belt Conference. In 1993, the Knights found a more stable home in the Atlantic Sun Conference, where they remained until 2005. This period allowed the program to develop its identity and build a strong foundation for future success.

Dominance in The American (2013-2023)

The Knights joined The American Athletic Conference (AAC) in 2013. In ten seasons in The American, UCF won six conference titles, including five straight from 2018-2022, and made the postseason seven times. This era marked a period of unprecedented success for the program, establishing them as a force to be reckoned with in the conference and on the national stage.
