A Complete Game
The UCF Knights delivered a complete game against an FBS opponent. With a 5-1 record, the Citronauts are on the cusp of achieving bowl eligibility.

Style Points Matter
While a College Football Playoff spot might be out of reach, a New Year's Six bowl is within sight. To secure such a bid, UCF needs to win the American Athletic Conference and accumulate valuable style points to outshine other Group of Five conference champions.
The Citronauts have become a more attractive team for television broadcasts. ESPN will consider UCF's games against Cincinnati and Tulane for better time slots and channels.
Younger players gained valuable experience. Freshmen quarterback Thomas Castellanos and running back Jordan McDonald saw significant playing time in the fourth quarter. Castellanos impressed with a 43-yard run, amassing a game-high 88 rushing yards on 3 carries and a touchdown. He also completed all six of his passes for 60 yards. McDonald tied for the game-high with nine carries for 44 yards and a touchdown.
Keys to UCF's Victory
UCF's triumph stemmed from superior talent and execution. Several factors contributed to their decisive win.
John Rhys Plumlee's Exceptional Performance
Quarterback John Rhys Plumlee delivered an outstanding performance, completing 18 of 22 passes for 373 yards and four touchdowns. His 82% completion rate showcased his accuracy and decision-making. Plumlee's ability to extend plays and find open receivers proved crucial. He is utilizing the pump fake more, it could continue to pull defenders toward the fake and also open up more running lanes for a tuck-and-go.
Receiving Success
The receivers demonstrated improved focus and execution, securing catches, blocking effectively downfield, and synchronizing with Plumlee.
Defensive Prowess
The defense maintained its strong tackling technique. Linebacker Jason Johnson led the team with nine tackles, including a tackle for loss and a quarterback hurry. Johnson and linebacker Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste displayed excellent pursuit angles, making key stops. While the defense did not generate turnovers, they limited Temple to 293 yards and only five big plays. In the second half, they restricted Temple to a mere 90 yards while UCF's offense gained 410 yards and outscored Temple 56-0.
Special Teams Efficiency
The special teams unit performed efficiently. Mitch McCarthy punted once, and Colton Boomer successfully kicked ten extra points. Ryan O'Keefe had a 51-yard kick return, accumulating 112 total return yards on four kicks.
Uniform Review: A Deep Space Homage
For their sixth Space Game, UCF donned special uniforms. Following their 2022 uniform series trend, UCF opted for a minimalist design highlighting deep space elements. The all-black uniform showcased the Space U moniker and font, a new numerical font, the Spitzer Telescope, and the two exoplanets (UCF 1.01 and UCF 1.02) discovered by the school. The helmet featured a darker shade of black, the darkest the school has ever used.

Instead of a stripe, the helmet displayed mission patches on the back, representing each game the player participated in. The block UCF logo started black and transitioned to blue.
UCF used a dark uniform base for their space uniform, but the shuttle theme in 2021 being white was understandable. The next question becomes how does UCF do it again without reusing details and triggering the law of diminishing returns.
