Academic Success Coaching: Your Personal Guide
Each undergraduate student at UCF is assigned an Academic Success Coach (ASC) to help them navigate their academic journey at UCF. Academic Advising is a collaborative relationship between you and your advisor. Your advisor will assist you with your educational, career, and personal goals by helping you understand University policies and procedures, major requirements, and campus resources. Connecting with your academic advisor regularly is important to your success in college!
The Role of the Academic Success Coach
Imagine having a coach! A supporter and guide who is there to navigate the academic terrain with you. This is what you get at UCF with Academic Success Coaching. If you are familiar with academic advising, we have taken that up a notch! Your Academic Success Coach will be your academic advisor, but also so much more. Every undergraduate student will have an assigned Academic Success Coach. Your coach will work with you during your initial coaching session to get to know you and your academic and career goals, and will then design with you a plan for success. Then, during your routine coaching sessions, your assigned coach will help you to set goals, create realistic success strategies, and monitor your success during your time at UCF.
Tailored Support for Each Major
Each undergraduate program at UCF boasts its unique aspects, challenges and opportunities. The academic success coaching approach is perfectly tailored to address the specific needs of each discipline. Whether you’re diving into the world of engineering, exploring the creative realms of the arts or unearthing the past in history, academic success coaches are equipped to guide you. They understand the nuances of your major and align their coaching to ensure that you make informed decisions best suited for your academic and career objectives. They specialize in guiding you through course selection, internships, research opportunities and career planning. Addressing Non-Academic Challenges
Recognizing that challenges outside the classroom can impact academic performance, UCF advisors also offer non-academic assistance tailored to individual needs. They can connect you with resources for financial aid concerns, housing issues, health and wellness services and more. Ready to meet the champions of your academic game plan? At UCF, you have access to a dedicated team of Academic Success Coaches who are more than advisors - they’re enablers of your potential. Each coach is equipped with the knowledge and tools to assist you with a wide range of academic and career queries. Think of them as your personal guide, here to help you make informed decisions, boost your academic skills and even tackle non-academic hurdles that may impact your studies.
Accessing Your Academic Success Coach
While walk-in advising is not offered, every active UCF student in a College of Business undergraduate program is assigned an Academic Success Coach (ASC). Students can schedule a 15-or 30-minute appointment with their ASC through myKnightStar. Walk-in dates may be offered during the first week of classes. These will be posted to our OPD Resource Course for active College of Business students. You and your assigned Academic Success Coach will work together, from orientation to graduation, to establish your goals, design your academic plans and monitor your success. Advising is by appointment only, outside of posted walk-in dates.
The Academic Success Coaching Team
The College of Business’ Academic Success Coaching Team is the result of a partnership between the College and the UCF Division of Student Success and Wellbeing. This highly competent team is dedicated to providing a welcoming and supportive environment for College of Business students. The team works with internal and external partners to provide academic and college engagement resources and is the primary academic advising and success coaching team for business students. Students will receive information and guidance through individual appointments, classes, workshops and collaborative partnerships with other student support teams and offices throughout the college and campus community. Students can take advantage of these opportunities as early as their new student orientation. We provide these opportunities through scheduled appointments, group advising and technology-based advising.
Career Coaching and Professional Development: Launching Your Career
Focusing on professional development, Career Coaches work with students to help them formulate a plan for building a successful career. The Office of Professional Development (OPD) provides academic advising, career coaching services and study abroad resources to students in the College of Business. Staffed by experienced Human Resource professionals, our Career Coaches help students develop their career plans from the day they start classes in the college. Our goal is to help students Get to the One - the one who gets the internship, the job or promotion. Each major has an assigned Career Coach.
Connecting with a Career Coach
You can see a Career Coach in a few different ways. First, you will want to schedule a Career Cluster appointment to meet with a coach in a small group session. By attending a group session, you then will be able to schedule a one-on-one appointment with a Career Coach upon completion. This will allow you to gain additional feedback for this resume in an individual setting. Specialized Career Coaching Services
We also have specialized coaches who act as a liaison between employers and business students for networking opportunities, internships and potential jobs. The Employer Relations Team can assist with job and internship-specific preparation. You should see the Employer Relations Team if you are a graduating senior, graduating the following semester, or are in the process of applying to jobs and/or internships. Appointments are available Tuesday and Wednesday of each week and can be booked here. While we cannot get the internship for you, we can certainly help you prepare and navigate through the process of finding an internship opportunity!

The Invitational: Your Exclusive Career Fair
The Invitational is the exclusive career and internship fair for the College of Business that is held each Fall and Spring semester. Business students can earn an invitation to the event from a faculty member or by completing certain activities, such as meeting with a Career Coach, attending a Career Cluster, etc. The Invitational features 30-50 employers with open internships and jobs specifically for business students. It is a great way to connect with employers and gain valuable real world experience in industry.

Additional Resources and Opportunities
Beyond academic advising and career coaching, the UCF College of Business offers a variety of additional resources and opportunities to enhance the student experience.
Course Overrides
Course overrides are provided for students having trouble with enrollment when they meet all course prerequisites.
Business Minors
Business minors can meet with the Advising Team for academic questions related to their minor. However, Career Coaches and the Employer Relations Team are able to help only students who are in a College of Business major. UCF Career Services assists students from every major and every college.
Pre-Major Status
All students pursuing a degree within the College of Business are admitted to UCF as a Pre-Major (Pre-Accounting, Pre-Finance, etc.) until admission requirements are met.
Knights Major Exploration and Transition Center (KMETC)
Students who are undeclared are assigned to work with an advisor in the Knights Major Exploration and Transition Center (KMETC). Students who are exploring majors may also work with KMETC. The Knights Major Exploration and Transition Center (KMETC) advisors and coaches assist undeclared and major exploring undergraduate students with degree exploration, college skill building, and transition to degree-specific college advising.
Office of Outreach & Engagement
Provide information and tools for students to complete academic processes (i.e. The Office of Outreach & Engagement at UCF College of Business can show you how your organization can benefit from a relationship with the college. The Office of Outreach & Engagement matches campus experts, world-class faculty and business opportunities with companies and corporations to develop and enhance relationships with the College. Through the UCF College of Business Corporate Partnership Program, we can help you customize a partnership package to fit your needs. Each semester the College of Business hosts an array of events to engage our partners, students, faculty, alumni and friends.
Blackstone Launchpad at UCF
Located in the Student Union, the Launchpad is open to all UCF students and offers free advising services to those launching a business, side hustle or social enterprise.
Dean’s Speaker Series
This TED-style speaker series connects our faculty to the community and helps generate support for research initiatives.
Student Ambassadors
A group of 25-30 students who are charged with helping the Dean manage and grow the culture of engagement in the college.
The EXCHANGE
An idea room where almost every day, students speak with someone from the community, the world of business, the college or campus about something important to their future.
