For students aspiring to pursue higher education, the financial aspect can often be a significant hurdle. Towson University recognizes this challenge and offers a range of merit-based scholarships designed to reward academic excellence and provide financial assistance to deserving students. This article delves into the details of these scholarships, outlining the eligibility requirements, application process, and renewal conditions.

Application Process

To be considered for these scholarships, prospective students must submit a complete application for Fall Admission, including transcripts, by the specified Early Action deadline. For freshman applicants, the deadline is November 1, while transfer applicants must apply by March 1.

External Aid Programs

Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) Aid

Legal residents of Maryland have the opportunity to apply for aid programs offered by the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC). These programs encompass grants and scholarships that are awarded based on financial need, merit, or a combination of both. While many of these aid programs only require the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), some may necessitate additional application steps. It is crucial to note that MHEC has a strict FAFSA deadline of March 1.

Private Scholarships

In addition to university and state-sponsored aid, a multitude of private organizations, including businesses, foundations, and civic organizations, offer scholarships to deserving students.

These awards are specifically for full-time fall and spring enrollment at TU (at least 12 units per semester). The total financial aid package, including these awards and all other aid from various sources (government, TU, and private), cannot exceed the student's TU Cost of Attendance budget. Towson University reserves the right to reduce or cancel these awards, and/or other aid, until the total aid falls within the established limit. It is important to note that other aid programs may have similar or additional total aid restrictions.

If a student's tuition rate changes from out-of-state to in-state, International and Tiger Scholarships will be canceled, and Provost Scholarships may be reduced or canceled. Fall aid offers are only valid if the student enrolls for that fall term. If enrollment is deferred to a later term, the aid offers will be canceled. Scholarships may be affected by incomplete, audited, dropped, or withdrawn courses.
