Navigating the Student District Portal: A Comprehensive Guide

Introduction to the Student District Portal

The student district portal is a web-based platform designed to provide a centralized location for accessing student information and resources. It streamlines communication between schools, students, and parents, promoting greater engagement and collaboration in the educational process. Through this portal, users can access a wide range of information, including grades, attendance records, schedules, and school announcements.

Accessing the Student District Portal

Obtaining Access Credentials

To access the student district portal, users typically need to create an account using an Access Key provided by the school. The Access Key consists of a unique Access ID and Access Password for each student. It is crucial to protect this information as it grants access to confidential student data.

  • PowerSchool Login: PowerSchool logins are granted by schools and districts. Each school will verify your identity before giving you an account to help protect student data and privacy. Contact your school or district for access information and instructions.
  • Access Key: Anyone with a student’s Access Key can access that student’s information through the portal, so protect the Access Key information as you would protect other confidential information. Multiple individuals can create accounts that the same student (e.g. each parent could have their own portal account).
  • Unique Link: Each school or district has a unique link for parents and students to access their portals. You can receive this link from your school or district administrators.

Creating an Account

When navigating to the portal login page for the first time, you will need to create a portal account. You will be selecting a username and password that you will use to access the portal, so decide on this information ahead of time.

  1. Username: Enter your desired username. You will want to make it something that you will remember.
  2. Password: Enter your desired password. The password must follow the rules outlined on the page.
  3. Access Password: Enter the Access Password exactly as it appears on the letter you received from the school containing the Access Keys.
  4. Multiple Students: You can enter multiple students if you have Access Keys for each student.

If there are errors, or items that need to be changed the page will reappear and indicate the changes that need to be made.

Logging In

Once you have created your account and are on the portal login page, you will enter the username and password that you created when you set up your account to access the portal. The password is case-sensitive, so be sure to enter it exactly as you entered it when you set up your account.

  • Signing Out: Be sure to sign out using the link in the top right corner when you are done. Signing out and closing your browser will prevent others from gaining access to your portal account.

Supported Browsers

ACPS recommends that you use one of the following browsers Internet Explorer (version 8 or later), Firefox (version 3.6 or later), or Safari (version 4 or later).

Features and Functionality

The student district portal offers a variety of features designed to enhance communication and provide easy access to student information.

  • School Announcements: Stay informed about important school-wide updates and events.
  • Attendance: Monitor student attendance records.
  • Grades (Current and Historical): View current and historical grades for all courses.
  • Schedules: Access student schedules.
  • Test Scores: Provides test scores for a student.
  • Assignments: View details about assignments.

All navigation in the portal will begin with the icons on the left side of the screen, or the list of students across the top of the screen. The links listed under Navigation on the left-hand side of the screen will help you access different information about your student. Click on a link to change to that screen.

Navigating the Portal

The portal interface is designed to be user-friendly and intuitive. Key areas include:

  • Navigation Menu: Located on the left side of the screen, the navigation menu provides access to different sections of the portal.
  • Student Selection: If you have multiple students associated with your account, you can switch between them using the student selection menu at the top of the screen. See Managing Student Links for more information about adding additional students. The currently selected student is highlighted in blue.
  • Hyperlinks: Clicking on the blue hyperlinks found on pages will give you additional information about that item. For example, clicking on a link for a grade in Grades and Attendance will provide you with details about the assignments that make up that grade. Clicking on the assignments will provide you with details about the assignment if the teacher has entered any additional details.

Managing Your Account

Account Preferences

The portal allows users to manage their account settings, including contact information and notification preferences.

  • Modifying Information: Modify any information by entering new information and clicking the Save button.
  • Username/Password: Modify your username of password by clicking on the hyperlink or pencil icon next to the appropriate field.
  • Notifications: By default, the notifications are sent to the address that you entered when you created your portal account.

Managing Student Links

If you have multiple students enrolled in the district, you can link them to your account for convenient access to their information.

  • Students Tab: You can get a list of students currently associated to your account by clicking on the Students tab on the Account Preferences screen.
  • Adding Students: Clicking on the Add+ button will bring up a screen that will allow you to enter the Access key information for additional students. Be sure to click Submit when you are finished entering the information.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Forgotten Password

If you have forgotten your password, you can click on the “Having trouble signing in?” link on the Sign In page. This will take you to a form where you can enter information to have your password reset.

District Code

  • Finding the District Code: The District Code can be found by signing in to your school’s web portal. When you sign in, the District Code should be visible in the black box located in the lower left-hand corner. Tap Where is my district code?

Password Reset

  • Student Password Reset: Students should contact their school to reset their password. Note: Your district may have disabled the setup screen. If so, please contact your school administrator directly. If you believe a feature may have been disabled or left disabled unintentionally, reach out to your district and let them know.

If you encounter any issues or have questions about the student district portal, several resources are available to assist you.

School Contacts

  • Grades: If you have questions about your student’s grades, you should contact the teacher.
  • Attendance: If you have questions about your student’s attendance, you should contact the school’s attendance office.
  • Parent Portal Assistance: If you need other assistance with the parent portal, you should contact your student’s school using the contact information provided on the letter that contained the Access Key for your student. The school is prepared to assist you with most issues surrounding the portal.
