Tuition and Fees: An Overview
While specific tuition figures may vary from year to year, it's important to understand that a Severn education represents a significant financial investment. The school is committed to providing resources and facilities that enhance the learning experience. Severn School is located approximately six miles from Annapolis on two separate campuses in Arnold and Severna Park, Maryland.
The 19-acre Teel campus in the heart of Severna Park includes the McCleary Student Center, Price Auditorium, Creeden Hall, four athletic fields (including two turf fields), Memorial Gymnasium, and the Edward St. John Athletic Center. The most recent addition is the beautiful Teel Academic Center which is a state-of-the-art facility housing the Zimmerman Library, Graw Innovation Center, and the Hoehn-Saric Center for Academic Excellence. The Chesapeake Campus in Arnold houses grades preschool through grade 5. Included on that campus are the Flinchum Gymnasium, Pat Troy Media Center, and Louise Sivvy Theatre. There are two fully equipped outdoor playgrounds, an outdoor science learning area, learning pavilion, and trike and scooter paths for early childhood students.

On Severn's 19-acre upper school and middle school campus, there are several academic buildings, including Teel Academic Center and Creeden Hall connected by elevated glass bridges on the upper floors. Teel Academic Center underwent a complete renovation in 2015 where the original Teel Academic Center, constructed in 1969 to house boarding students, was torn down and replaced with the new $17 million building. The new building houses Graw Innovation Center, a computer lab, the Zimmerman Library, and the Hoehn-Saric Family Center for Academic Excellence, as well as middle and upper school classrooms. Creeden Hall, constructed in 2002 as the Upper School Academic Center, contains science labs and prep rooms, a greenhouse, "Roche" Lecture Hall, classrooms, two computer labs, and several spaces for students such as Creeden Commons. Also on this campus is McCleary Student Center which houses Price Auditorium, Bauer Dining Hall, Powell Conference Room, and several arts classrooms for both the middle and upper school. Severn School has also finished the process of constructing the Edward St. John Athletic Center. The facility, opened April 2008, cost about $10 million. The Chesapeake Campus in Arnold, obtained in 2013, houses Severn's Lower School. On that campus are Flinchum Gymnasium, Pat Troy Center, and Sivvy Theatre. There are 2 fully equipped outdoor playgrounds, an outdoor science learning area, learning pavilion, and trike and scooter path for early childhood students. The majority of the campus was demolished in 2025, with only the Flinchum Gymnasium and parts of the Sivvy Theatre remaining.
Financial Aid: Making Severn Accessible
Severn School is committed to building a community of belonging, and this starts with a commitment to providing financial support to those who demonstrate financial need. For the 2022-23 school year, Severn awarded over $3 million in financial aid to qualified families (23% of students). A family’s financial situation does not affect an applicant’s admission decision. The Financial Aid Committee keeps all financial information confidential. Severn’s expectation that families rely first on their own resources before expecting the school to help them with financial aid.
The Application Process
To help us objectively assess what a family is able to contribute to its student(s) education expenses, we use School and Student Services (SSS By NAIS) as a trusted third party. We partner with School and Student Services (SSS) by NAIS in our financial aid process. To begin your financial aid application, you will complete SSS’s Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS). Severn's school code is 7288. The SSS analysis of a family's "Estimated Family Contribution (EFC)" is a critical component of our financial aid decision. To make our final financial aid award decisions, we use the SSS figures as the baseline for our own additional review, taking into consideration our total financial aid budget, other information we may have collected, our school’s policies and priorities, and the needs of our entire applicant pool. Due to circumstances like these, and others, our school may ask your family to contribute more or less to tuition than what is estimated on the SSS Family Report.
Forms for applicants new to Severn School must be submitted to Student Service for Financial Aid no later than January 16, 2026. The deadline for submitting the Parent Financial Statement (PFS) for returning students is December 19 ,2025. In order for a student to be considered for aid, it is essential that parents adhere to the instructions and deadlines. A request that is filed late will not receive priority and, even though the family may qualify for aid, it may not be available. Each award is made for one year only, based on the availability of school funds and on an annual case-by-case evaluation.
Special Circumstances: Divorced or Separated Parents
In the case of financial assistance, the matter of divorce or separation of parents is a difficult one. The school will consider the assets of both natural parents, if living, before making any award, and cannot be bound by the assertion that one parent has disclaimed responsibility for educational expenses. It is not within the school’s policy to fund one parents’ unwillingness to pay, if able. If either parent has remarried, we will consider also the assets of the stepparent, always bearing in mind the obligation of that stepparent to his or her own natural children. It is necessary that both the natural parents and their current spouses, if any, fill out the appropriate PFS form. It is the responsibility of the custodial parent to ask the non-custodial parent to fill out this form, which you should request from the admissions office. If it is not possible for the non-custodial parent to fill out the form, please write us a letter explaining these circumstances.

Severn School was founded in 1914 by Roland M. The Severn Admirals compete in thirteen varsity sports: sailing, lacrosse, cross country running, football, wrestling, soccer, basketball, swimming, baseball, golf, tennis and field hockey, as well as track and field in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association.
