Accessible Facilities for All
Stanford offers a wealth of athletic, recreation, and wellness facilities accessible to staff, faculty, and retirees with a Stanford ID card. Spouses/domestic partners with a courtesy ID card and dependents up to age 26 with a recreation ID card can also access these state-of-the-art facilities. These facilities include:
- Multiple Sports and Recreation Centers: Three 75,000-square-foot sports and rec centers provide ample space for various activities.
- Aquatic Center: A dedicated space for swimming and other aquatic activities.
- Outdoor Fitness Court: An open-air space equipped for outdoor workouts.
- Climbing Wall: One of the largest collegiate climbing walls in the country, offering a challenging and rewarding experience for climbers of all levels.
- Red Barn Equestrian Center: Stanford’s oldest building and a link to the university’s founding.
- Golf Facilities: Including one of the world’s finest golf courses and a driving range.

The Arrillaga Center for Sports and Recreation
A prime example of Stanford's commitment to recreation is the Arrillaga Center for Sports and Recreation. This 75,000 square foot facility, which opened in February 2006, caters to students, faculty and staff. The facility is home to Stanford Squash and Stanford Fencing. Its features include:

- Erickson Family Courts: Three full-length basketball courts.
- Whiting Family Climbing Wall: A dedicated space for climbing enthusiasts.

Diverse Programs and Activities

Since 1894, the Physical Wellness program has provided opportunities for students to learn new skills through a variety of lifetime physical activity courses including yoga, aquatics, fitness, racquet sports, golf and martial arts. - Outdoor Clinics: Individuals looking to improve their skills in the great outdoors can check out Outdoor Clinics to learn various skills such as Map and Compass Basics, Intro to Thru-Hiking, Build Your Own Med Kit, and High Angle Photography.
- Climbing Rec Classes: Climbing Rec Classes cover everything from climbing basics to advanced techniques. You will learn what you need to know to start leading climbs, and we emphasize safe practices so you can explore the sport with confidence. Instructors are always on hand to guide you through the process of scaling rock walls at the Stanford Climbing Wall.
Climbing Opportunities
Stanford provides ample opportunities for climbing enthusiasts, with classes and facilities catering to all skill levels. Those wanting to learn how to top rope belay can sign up for a one-hour class to learn the basics of top rope belaying. Please ensure that you have been to the climbing wall at least once prior to this course.
