Five members of each Mercer freshman class are selected for the Stamps Scholars Program.

Financial Support

The Stamps Scholarship covers the full cost of attendance for four years of undergraduate study, including tuition, fees, room, board, and books. In addition to this comprehensive coverage, Stamps Scholars receive a $16,000 stipend over four years for enrichment activities. This stipend can be used for various academic and professional development opportunities, such as study abroad programs or undergraduate research projects. The Stamps Scholars program covers all expenses for four years of undergraduate study and includes an enrichment fund that scholars can use for their academic and professional development.

Eligibility and Selection Process

Students selected for the Stamps Scholars Program at Mercer University are among the highest achieving applicants in the entering class. Mercer applicants who meet academic criteria will receive a supplemental Stamps Scholars Program application and will be invited to campus for an interview. Mercer’s Stamps Committee will recommend a select number of applicants as semifinalists. The semifinalists will receive a supplemental application and will be invited to campus to be interviewed by the Committee in February. “We are grateful to partner with Stamps Scholars to select our most qualified applicants for this prestigious scholarship,” said Dr. Kelly Holloway, assistant vice president for enrollment management.

Success Stories of Stamps Scholars

Mercer’s Stamps alumni have gone on to professional programs in fields such as medicine, law and dentistry and Ph.D. programs such as chemistry, neuroscience, pharmacology and hydrology. Stamps Scholars are among the recipients of prestigious awards including Fulbright, Gates Cambridge, Goldwater, Marshall, Rhodes, Schwarzman and Truman scholarships. This year’s incoming class of Scholars was selected from nearly 509,000 applications nationwide. The Stamps Scholarship helped me to discover my passions and my interests through mentors and providing the funding for me to pursue opportunities. Even more important, I believe that Stamps gave me a diverse set of friends across the nation who are passionate and driven. I am able to support these friends just as they support and encourage me! For the next steps, I have been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Grant to the Czech Republic. State Department and (in my case) the Czech Republic’s Government. From late August to late June, I will spend 10 months in a medium sized town called Zidlochovice which is just south of the large city of Brno (The second largest city in CZ). I will teach English and American culture to 12-19 year olds hoping to go to University.

The Legacy of Roe and Penny Stamps

Georgia native Roe Stamps, who was raised in Macon and attended Stratford Academy, and his late wife, Penny, launched the Stamps Scholarship in 2006 at their alma maters, the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Michigan, respectively.
