This appointment signals a new era for SIU baseball, with Rhodes bringing his expertise and vision to the program.

Dave Stieb, SIUC Hall of Fame Pitcher, shared his experience, "What he's (Roy Halladay) feeling, I've lived. You feel like you're on your own (when trying to win a Cy Young Award). You feel like it's you against everybody, even your own team. You feel like you can't take a day off or have an off day because you're not allowed to - and in my case, I wouldn't allow myself to. You feel like you've got to complete every game, every time." Stieb's words offer a glimpse into the mental fortitude and unwavering dedication required to succeed at the highest level of the sport.
