Merit-Based Scholarships

Every student who submits an application to Peabody College is automatically considered for merit-based aid. There is no separate application for these scholarships. These scholarships recognize high-achieving students who will greatly contribute to their program of study.

Peabody Honor Scholarship

This is the most competitive and prestigious award a student can receive from Peabody College. Very few students are nominated for this distinguished scholarship. This award covers 66% tuition for up to three years. There is a cohort of Peabody Honor Scholars in each incoming class. These students enjoy specialized lectures and social events with faculty and academic Deans. This scholarship begins the first semester in which a student enrolls and expires three years after matriculation. A recipient must be enrolled as a full - time student for each semester unless it is his/her final semester.

Achievement Scholarship

This award covers 33% tuition for up to three years. No minimum enrollment is required; however, since there is a time limitation, students will want to complete their program of study before the three year award expires.

Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarships

Peabody College awards Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarships to incoming first-year students based on academic achievement, intellectual promise, and leadership and contribution outside the classroom.

Need-Based Financial Aid

Peabody Conservatory offers need-based financial aid through a number of Scholarship Programs, including meeting 100% of need for all eligible domestic undergraduate students with no-loan financial aid packages.

Cummings Scholars Program

This undergraduate program offers need-based financial aid to graduates of Baltimore City public high schools and Washington, DC, public high schools who are U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents. Applicants are required to submit a FAFSA, CSS Profile, Non-Custodial parent profile (for divorced/separated families), and recent federal tax returns with all pages- including schedules and W-2 forms.

Applicants with family incomes of \$80,000 or less (with typical assets) will receive financial aid packages that consist of scholarship and grant aid that is equivalent to 100% cost of attendance. Their financial aid packages will be loan-free and consist of a combination of institutional scholarship or grant aid, as well as any federal and/or state grant aid for which the student may be eligible. Applicants with family incomes between \$80,000 and \$150,000 with typical assets will have their family contributions capped at 10% of family income. All scholars must submit the FAFSA and CSS Profile every year the student is enrolled at the Peabody Institute.

Scholarships for Specific Groups

Peabody students may be eligible for scholarships and financial aid through a variety of programs meant to support specific groups of students.

City Year AmeriCorps Scholastic Achievement Scholarship

Peabody College offers a Scholastic Achievement Scholarship, covering 35% tuition, for all admitted City Year AmeriCorps members and alumni enrolling in on-campus master’s and Ed.D. programs. Scholarship recipients must remain in good academic standing. To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must indicate their City Year alumni or participant status at the time of application and upload an official service verification letter from City Year.

Alumni Scholarship

Vanderbilt alumni looking to further their education can receive a guaranteed 20 percent tuition discount to earn a professional master's or doctorate of education at Peabody College. All admitted students are automatically considered for applicable scholarships; no separate application is required. Many alumni are also eligible for merit scholarships; however, admitted students can only receive one scholarship. If alumni are awarded a merit scholarship, they will receive the higher funding amount. Select online programs are also eligible: Innovative Design and Technology in Education (Online), Multilingual Education (Online), Applied Behavior Analysis (Online), and Educational Effectiveness and Organizational Learning (Online). At this time, this scholarship is not applicable to the Online Ed.D. in Leadership and Learning in Organizations (LLO).

Nashville Metropolitan Area K-12 Public School Scholarship

Applicants admitted to a Peabody College master’s degree program and who work fulltime, in good standing, in any role, in a public, K-12 school in one of the counties identified as part of the Nashville Metropolitan Area will be awarded a partial tuition scholarship for the minimum number of hours to complete their degree. Specifically, these counties are: Cannon, Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Hickman, Macon, Maury, Robertson, Rutherford, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, Williamson, and Wilson.

Teacher Pathway Scholarship

The Teacher Pathway scholarship guarantees a minimum 30 percent scholarship to all students admitted after Spring 2026 in initial licensure programs and advanced programs, and a minimum 20 percent scholarship for teacher leadership programs. Scholarship cannot be combined with other Peabody scholarships; if a student is eligible for multiple awards, the larger amount will be granted.

Eligible Programs include:

  • Initial Licensure Programs (30% minimum scholarship): Secondary Education, Elementary Education, Multilingual Education (residential only), Integrated Early Childhood Education, Special Education
  • Advanced Programs (30% minimum scholarship): Human Development Counseling (School Counseling track only), Reading Education
  • Teacher Leadership Programs (20% minimum scholarship): K-12 Educational Leadership and Policy (Ed.D)

Special Awards for Online Programs

Students applying for online programs who have successfully completed service with one of the following programs are guaranteed to receive a partial tuition scholarship:

  • AmeriCorps Award (minimum 30% award)
  • Bonner Foundation Award (minimum 30% award)
  • City Year Award (minimum 35% award)
  • McNair Scholars Award (minimum 30% award)
  • Peace Corps Award (minimum 30% award)
  • Posse Award (minimum 30% award)

To receive one of these Special Awards, you must indicate on the application that you are an alumni of/current participant in the program and also must upload an official letter from the program that confirms your service and participation. If you are an alumni/current participant in more than one of the programs listed under Special Awards, please indicate the program with which you have had your most recent association.

Graduate Assistantships

Graduate Assistantships are available to qualified students who have been admitted to graduate programs (MM, AD, GPD, DMA) as full-time candidates. If you want to be considered for an assistantship, you will submit an assistantship application by the December 1st application deadline. If you are offered and accept a graduate assistantship, any awarded scholarship will be replaced with the GA appointment.

Graduate Fellowships

The Peabody Conservatory’s Graduate Jazz fellowships cover full tuition plus a remittance payment for MM or GPD students in the Jazz program. Fellowships will be granted to up to three students per year (a maximum six fellows in any given year). No separate application is necessary and all applicants to the Graduate Jazz program will be considered.

Each year Peabody offers fellowships to a select cohort of admitted DMA students who demonstrate excellence in both academic scholarship and musical performance. The Dean’s DMA fellowships cover tuition and fees plus a stipend for the two required years of full-time residency. All admitted DMA students will be automatically considered for the fellowships.

As part of the larger Johns Hopkins Pathways to PhD initiative, the Pathways to DMA aims to expand opportunities for applicants from backgrounds historically disadvantaged in the DMA. Each year, Peabody will provide grant funding for two students to begin in the MM with a defined and supported pathway for matriculation to the DMA. Students in the Pathways to DMA program will receive full tuition and a stipend for four years-two years in the MM and two years in the residency portion of the DMA. Students interested in the Pathways program must indicate their interest in the application for admission to the MM and will be asked to submit an essay specific to the Pathways program as part of their application.

External Scholarships

There are many scholarships for Peabody students. The "Be Bold" Scholarship is a no-essay scholarship that will be awarded to the applicant with the boldest profile. State Grants and Scholarships

Students from certain states may be eligible for state grants or scholarships to help fund their education at Peabody. Check with your state higher education agency for eligibility requirements.
