Unlocking Opportunities: A Guide to Otterbein University Scholarships

Otterbein University offers a variety of scholarships and financial aid options to help students achieve their academic dreams. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the scholarships available at Otterbein, along with eligibility requirements and application processes. Big dreams start here, and Otterbein is committed to making education accessible and affordable.

Admission-Based Scholarships

Many scholarships are awarded during the admission review process to new, first-year domestic or international undergraduate students. These scholarships are renewable for up to eight semesters or until the first undergraduate degree is obtained, whichever comes first. Consideration for these awards is based on a student’s overall application for admission, with a focus on demonstrated scholarship and leadership in high school.

Talent and Participation Awards

Otterbein University recognizes students with exceptional talents in the arts. Talent and participation awards are available for students majoring in Art, Communications, Music, and Theatre, or minoring in Dance. It's important to note that students can only receive one talent award.

  • Art: Art majors must electronically submit two images of their artwork for an initial talent award ranging from $1,000 to $3,000. Renewal criteria are set by the department.
  • Music: Music majors must undergo an audition process. The most competitive students may be considered for a full-tuition scholarship, replacing all other Otterbein aid and scholarships. Additional auditions and submissions may be required.
  • Athletic Band: Offered to non-Music majors who agree to participate in Otterbein ensembles and take required private lessons and courses. This is specifically for participants of the Otterbein Athletic band who play woodwind, brass, or percussion instruments, or are members of the color guard or twirler.
  • Theatre: Awarded to admitted students through the audition process.
  • Communications: Designed to recognize outstanding students interested in communications careers.
  • Dance: Awarded to students minoring in Dance.

All talent and participation awards require a separate audition, portfolio review, interview, and/or essay. Students must be majors in the department they are awarded a talent award. Renewal criteria are established by each department.

Education Program Award

This award is for incoming education students who have early exposure to teaching that led to college credit (e.g., CCP, CTAG).
