Rivalries and Traditions
Oregon State University maintains strong rivalries, most notably with the University of Oregon. Their annual matchup, traditionally the last game of the season, was long known as the "Civil War Game." The two schools have played each other 128 times, tied for fifth most among any Division I FBS rivalry.
Another significant rivalry exists with Washington State, dating back to 1895. As of 2024, the two rivals have met 109 times and are scheduled to play a home-and-home series in 2025. The Northwest Championship, a rivalry between Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, and Washington State, began in a round-robin format in 1903.
Reser Stadium
The Beavers play their home games at Reser Stadium in Corvallis, Oregon. Originally named Parker Stadium when constructed in 1953 with a capacity of 25,000, it was renamed Reser Stadium in June 1999. Major renovations from 2005 to 2016 increased the stadium's capacity to 43,363 through the 2021 season. A subsequent renovation project, "Completing Reser," was announced on Feb. 4, 2022.

The Original Beaver
The very first logo featured a kind and friendly beaver wearing a black and orange hat, adorned with the black "OSU" monogram on its orange trims.

While distinctive, the logo was considered somewhat unrefined, particularly due to its exaggerated teeth. Despite its aesthetic shortcomings, this emblem remained in use for over two decades.
The 1997 Modification
The emblem adopted in 1997 presented a slightly more refined beaver. The primary change involved swapping the orange rims along the letters and the emblem proper for red ones.

The Academic Crest
To complement the athletic logo, Pentagram redesigned the university’s institutional logo, unveiling a new academic crest and word mark set in the contemporary Roman typeface Newzald. The typeface was chosen for its balance between academic gravitas and the university's rugged, outdoorsy ethos.
The new heraldic shield simplifies the symbolism of the state crest to represent Oregon State’s four major grants: Land, Sea, Sun, and Space. A Douglas fir, the state tree, rises through the center of the shield, symbolizing forestry. A large book represents academic excellence. Three stars, symbolizing Oregon State’s space grant and its three main campuses, rise above three peaks representing the Three Sisters mountains. The university’s founding date, 1896, is emblazoned across the mountain range.
The heart-shaped shield, the "Heart of Oregon," was redrawn, and the eagle was replaced with a simpler beaver.
