Nassau Community College: An Overview
Nassau Community College (NCC) is a two-year public institution and the largest community college campus in New York State. Situated in East Garden City, New York, it operates on a semester-based academic calendar.
General Information
Founded in 1959 as part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system, Nassau Community College opened its doors on February 1, 1960, with 632 students. Initially, classes were held in an old courthouse.
The college's main campus is located at One Education Drive, Garden City, NY 11530. In the past, NCC operated additional locations, including one at 750 Woodbury Road, Woodbury, NY 11797, which ceased operations on January 31, 2022. Other instructional sites include Baldwin High School, East Rockaway High School, Elmont Memorial High School, Farmingdale High School, Floral Park Memorial High School, and Freeport High School.
Academics and Admissions
Nassau Community College utilizes a semester-based academic year. The student-faculty ratio is 17-to-1. The highest degree offered is an associate degree.
The school maintains an open admissions policy and offers credit for life experiences. In Fall 2023, the total number of entering students was 4,072.

Students can earn degrees and certificates in 76 different fields. Popular programs include Humanities/Humanistic Studies, Business Administration and Management, General, and Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration.
Tuition, Cost & Aid
For the 2020-2021 academic year, in-state tuition and fees were $6,330, while out-of-state tuition and fees were $12,130. The application fee is $50.

Student Life
In Fall 2022, the full-time enrollment was 7,594, and the part-time enrollment was 6,270. A significant portion of the student body is comprised of first-generation students, with 45% identifying as such.

Nassau Community College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). The next evaluation visit is scheduled for 2032-2033.

Campus Safety and Athletics
Nassau Community College prioritizes campus safety with 24-hour security patrol, campus emergency phones, 24-hour escort safety rides, and a mobile campus emergency alert system.
The college also offers a variety of varsity athletics.
Notable People
Andrew P. Nouman Ali Khan, is an American Islamic speaker who founded the Bayyinah Institute for Arabic and Qur’anic Studies after serving as an instructor of Arabic at Nassau Community College.
