Nassau BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services) offers a comprehensive array of adult education programs designed to empower individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary for personal and professional growth. These programs cater to diverse needs, ranging from English language acquisition to high school equivalency and career training. With a commitment to accessibility and student success, Nassau BOCES provides valuable resources and support to adult learners throughout Nassau County.
Adult Learning Center: Enhancing English Language Proficiency
For those looking to improve their English language skills, the Adult Learning Center (ALC) at Nassau BOCES is the answer. The ALC provides English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, catering to individuals with varying levels of proficiency. Recognizing the importance of flexible scheduling, the ALC is opening a new location with a new schedule for ESL classes, including classes on Saturday!
New Location and Expanded Schedule
The ALC opened its new ALC at Endo Campus, located at 500 Endo Blvd., Garden City, in January. This state-of-the-art facility offers a conducive learning environment for adult learners. For the first time, the center will offer Saturday ESL classes, providing more opportunities to fit busy schedules. “We are so excited to offer Saturday classes in this new location to our students,” said Adult Education Supervisor Lisa Carboy. “This is a beautiful facility with ample parking. It is also right on the NICE bus line and adjacent to the Meadowbrook Parkway." The new location and expanded schedule demonstrate Nassau BOCES' commitment to making adult education accessible to all members of the community.
Spring 2025 Registration
The Adult Learning Center is pleased to announce the registration dates for the Spring 2025 English as a Second Language (ESL) and General Education Diploma (GED) classes. Registration takes place at 144 W. Old Country Rd., Hicksville, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, and on Mondays and Tuesdays from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Please note that all registrations must be done in person, and students are required to bring photo identification for the registration process. It is recommended to allow 1-2 hours for testing and paperwork completion to ensure a smooth registration experience.
General Education Diploma (GED) Classes
In addition to ESL classes, the Adult Learning Center also offers General Education Diploma (GED) classes. These classes are designed to help adults who did not complete high school earn a high school equivalency diploma. The GED is widely recognized by employers and educational institutions, opening doors to further education and career opportunities.
