Muffakham Jah College of Engineering and Technology: A Legacy of Engineering Education
Muffakham Jah College of Engineering and Technology (MJCET) stands as a premier engineering institute in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Established in 1980 by the Sultan-ul-Uloom Education Society (S.U.E.S.), MJCET has grown from a small institution into a leading educational center, offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The college is located in the heart of the city at Mount Pleasant, Road number 3, Banjara Hills.
Foundation and Evolution
The Sultan-ul-Uloom Education Society, formed by a group of visionaries and intellectuals, established MJCET with the goal of providing quality education in engineering and technology. Starting with three undergraduate engineering programs, the college expanded its offerings to meet the growing demands for technical education.
Postgraduate Programs
Starting in 2004, MJCET introduced postgraduate programs, beginning with the Master of Engineering (M.E.) in Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM). This was followed by the introduction of M.E. in Structural Engineering in 2007, Digital Systems in 2009, Computer Science in 2010, and Power Electronics and Electrical Drives in 2013. By the mid-2010s, the college offered five M.E./M.Tech. programs.
Research and Development
To promote research and innovation, MJCET established its Research and Development (R&D) Cell in 2007. The initial budget for the R&D Cell was Rs. 1 lakh, which increased to Rs. 50 lakhs. Departmental research centers were initiated in Civil, Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, and Mechanical Engineering between 2013 and 2017. These resources support 69 Ph.D. scholars and foster innovation through initiatives like the MJ Hub Incubation Center, founded in 2018, and specialized labs such as the ANVESHANA Robotics Centre.
Academic Programs
MJCET offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in engineering and technology. The college is affiliated with Osmania University, Hyderabad, and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.

Undergraduate Programs
For undergraduate (UG) programs, eligibility requires completion of 10+2 with Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry (MPC) or equivalent, with a minimum aggregate of 45% for SC/ST candidates and 50% for others. Admission to 70% of the seats (Category A) is based on the Engineering, Agricultural and Pharmacy Common Entrance Test (EAPCET). The remaining 30% seats (Category B, management quota) are filled directly by the college, including provisions for NRI candidates, based on EAPCET ranks or equivalent qualifications.
Postgraduate Programs
For postgraduate (PG) programs, candidates must hold a relevant bachelor's degree in engineering or technology with a minimum of 50% aggregate (45% for reserved categories). Admission to 70% of seats occurs via GATE scores or the Postgraduate Engineering Common Entrance Test (PGECET). The 30% management quota for PG follows a comparable process, emphasizing merit from entrance scores.
Tuition and Financial Assistance
Tuition fees for the 2025-26 academic year are INR 1.25 lakhs per year for UG programs and INR 1.30 lakhs per year for PG programs, exclusive of additional university and caution deposits. Financial assistance is available through state government scholarships under the e-Pass scheme for SC/ST/BC/EBC and minority students, covering full or partial tuition based on family income and academic merit. Merit-based waivers up to 50% are offered for top performers in entrance exams, particularly within the minority quota.
Campus and Infrastructure
The campus of MJCET is located in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. The campus is divided into various buildings for different departments of engineering. Block 4 is the oldest, where the college was first started in 1980. There is a separate block exclusively for workshops, which consist of a wide range of machinery depending on the respective departments. The college campus also has a mosque for prayers. There are two canteens, vegetarian and non-vegetarian.
Student Life and Extracurricular Activities
MJCET fosters a vibrant extracurricular ecosystem through diverse student clubs and organizations. These groups enable students to engage in hands-on projects, skill-building events, and collaborative initiatives. Technical clubs at MJCET play a pivotal role in advancing engineering skills through competitions and innovation-driven activities. The IEEE Student Branch organizes workshops, seminars, and technical events.
