Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC), a public community college in Moultrie, Georgia, stands as a pivotal institution within the Technical College System of Georgia. Formed in July 2015 through the merger of Moultrie Technical College and Southwest Georgia Technical College, SRTC serves seven counties, with campuses strategically located in each: Colquitt, Tift, Turner, Worth, Thomas, Grady, and Mitchell. Historical Context

The origins of SRTC trace back to 1964 when the Moultrie Area Vocational-Technical School was established. The original building, constructed at a cost of $325,000, opened its doors to 40 students, a staff of nine, and five programs of study: automotive mechanics, diesel mechanics, machine shop, drafting and design technology, and electronics. W. W. Hobbs was named director. The following year, heating and air conditioning, accounting, secretarial and clerical programs were added, increasing full-time enrollment to 100. By 1966, the welding program was introduced, and full-time enrollment rose to 180. In 1969, cosmetology, practical nursing, telecommunication, and mathematics programs were added to the curriculum.

Registered Nursing (RN)

The Registered Nursing (RN) program provides students with the essential skills and knowledge for a career as a registered nurse.

Practical Nursing (PN)

MTC’s Online Studies program enrollment is one of the highest in Georgia’s Technical College System (TCSG).

Enrollment and Graduation Rates

In 2011, the total enrollment at Moultrie Tech was more than 2,500 students across its three campuses. In 2010, 791 credit program students graduated, with over 94 percent being placed in a job in their field of study or choosing to continue their education. More than 160 GED diplomas were awarded in 2010 out of an adult education program enrollment of 2,037 students.

Economic Development and Continuing Education

The Economic Development and Continuing Education division served 4,982 people in non-credit training and administered the Quick Start training program from many industries in Colquitt, Tift, Turner and Worth counties in 2010.
