These scholarships commemorate the legacies of three outstanding community leaders whose contributions continue to resonate in the Manchester area.

Honoring Community Leaders

The Members First Credit Union scholarships are named in memory of individuals who have significantly impacted the Manchester community:

  • John S. Walsh: A Manchester firefighter, John S. Walsh founded Members First Credit Union, originally named Manchester Municipal Employees Credit Union, in 1949. Initially, he managed the credit union from his briefcase at the Somerville Street fire station. This scholarship acknowledges his vision and dedication to serving the financial needs of the community.
  • Wilbur L. Jenkins: Wilbur L. Jenkins served as a Director on the Supervisory Committee of Members First Credit Union for 34 years. He also held the position of the first Personnel Director for the City of Manchester. This scholarship recognizes his long-standing commitment to the credit union and the city.
